‘빌더버그 그룹’ 스위스 회동 왜? 나흘간… 참석자·의제 미공개   문화일보 2011.06.09 14:01   세계에서 가장 비밀스럽고, 가공할 영향력을 지닌 결사체로 알려진 '빌더버그 그룹' 회원들이 9일부터 나흘간 스위스 생모리츠의 한 고급 리조트에 집결한다. 올해 모임에 어떤 사람들이 참석하며, 무엇을 논의하는지는 전혀 공개되지 않고 있다. 중동 북아프리카를 휩쓸고 있는 민주화 움직임과 유럽 및 세계 각국의 심각한 재정위기, 무역자유화 등이 주요 의제로 다뤄질 것으로 추측될 뿐이다. 스위스 다보스포럼(세계경제포럼)은 물론 유럽연합(EU)과 유엔마저도 능가하는 실질적인 '세계정부'로 지목받아온 빌더버그 그룹이 불확실성이 만연한 시점에서 어떤 미래 어젠다를 설정할지에 관심이 쏠리고 있다고 영국 BBC는 8일 지적했다. 빌더버그 그룹은 1954년 전후 세계의 방향설정을 위해 유럽과 미국의 최고위 정치인, 경제인들이 네덜란드 빌더버그 호텔에서 비밀회합을 가지면서 시작된 것으로 알려져 있다. 워낙 은밀히 움직였던 이 그룹의 정체가 처음으로 드러난 것은 결성 후 20년이 넘은 1977년 영국 더 타임스의 보도에 의해서였다. 당시 더 타임스는 빌더버그 그룹을 "앞으로 일어날 일들을 기획하기 위해 비밀회합을 갖는 서방 권력가들의 모임"으로 설명했다. 일각에서는 EU, 나토(NATO·북대서양조약기구) 를 비롯해 자유무역협정(FTA) 등의 아이디어도 이 회의에서 나왔다는 주장을 제기하고 있다. 현재 비공식 본부는 네덜란드 라이덴대 내에 있다. 역시 비공식 회장은 헨리 키신저 전 미국 국무장관과 벨기에 최대 재벌이자 귀족인 에티엥 다비뇽이 맡고 있다. 일명 '빌더버거'로 불리는 회원명단은 한 번도 공개된 적이 없지만, 지난 30년간 영국의 모든 총리들을 비롯해 미국 전·현직 대통령, 서방 각국의 주요 정치인, 글로벌 기업 최고경영자(CEO), 학자들이 가입돼 있는 것으로 추정된다. 지난 2008년 미국 워싱턴 회합 때는 벤 버냉키 미 연방준비제도이사회(FRB)의장, 2009년 그리스 시트게스 회합 때는 티머시 가이트너 미 재무장관이 참석하는 모습이 언론에 포착되기도 했다.
