The old Covenant and the new Covenant Jeremiah 31:31-34, Hebrews 8:6-13 1. The transition between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant was accomplished once and for all through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.His death and resurrection—that is, the event of three days.The covenant of death and life was fulfilled in one cup of the blood of the eternal covenant (Hebrews 13:20-21).The Lord shedding His blood is his death, and his giving of that blood as a single cup is our life.Breaking an oath made by blood results in death, just as that blood was shed.He resolved our sins by shedding his blood and dying on our behalf, who had broken the promise, and He fulfilled that covenant with a single cup of blood. 2. It is a condition for the fulfillment of the New Covenant. 1) It is the death of Jesus Christ. It is a death for the penalty of our sins.2) By tearing the veil, He brought an end to the temple sacrifices (Matthew 27:51). We must not refer to a building as a temple.There are no more stone temples (John 2:19).The Jews' talk of a third temple is merely a matter of their own salvation and has nothing to do with the Bible.3) The law and the prophets—that is, the old Testament—have been completed, and in Christ, the law of love has begun through grace and truth.4) Since Christ rose again after three days with the power of life, the era of obtaining new life has arrived.Eating what was forbidden becomes a sin, and eating that life in Christ becomes righteousness. 3. Characteristics of the Two Covenants 1) The Old Covenant is a ministry of death (2 Corinthians 3:7).Therefore, according to the law, Jesus Christ died.With this, the old Covenant came to an end.2) The New Covenant is a covenant of new life. And he enables us to live within that life. “Just as Christ was raised from the dead, we also may live in new of life” (Romans 6:4b). Since Christ dwells within us, he becomes the power of life that enables us to act by faith. 4. Between the old covenant and the new covenant lies the chasm of death.For example, an heir’s property comes only when the former owner dies. This is the principle.Hebrews 9:16 states, “A will is valid only after the testator has died; it is not valid while the testator is alive” (Verse 17).We have died to the law through Jesus Christ (Rom 7:4, Gal 2:19).If we believe God’s word that we have died with him in Christ, this promise is fulfilled.Therefore, Romans 7:6 says, “So we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.”Since the old covenant (the law) is a ministry that condemns and causes death, the process of death is absolutely necessary for us to be guided by the Holy Spirit.Remember the fact that Jesus Christ was also glorified through his death.As heirs of the new covenant, we also become like Jesus Christ.We have died with him in Jesus Christ (baptism).We, who died as enemies due to sin in Adam, have died to sin and death in Jesus Christ and have passed over to God.This is the true meaning of the cross and the only channel of salvation (John 14:6). It is true repentance.We must agree to the death of Jesus Christ as our own death and accept (receive) the living One as our Savior in us.Through the Jesus' death, we receive the forgiveness of sins, and through the living One, we receive the Holy Spirit in us. The reason the Holy Spirit manifests outwardly is that we are the position of sin. 5. This is the method of applying the new covenant. Just as Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead was accomplished by the power of God, our lives must also be accomplished by the power of God.He brought us from the dead by the blood of the eternal covenant (Heb 13:20).He resurrected us, who were dead in Adam, in Christ.That blood is life.The Lord giving a cup of blood signifies that he died in our place and that he becomes eternal life for us.It is the work of God, who is still working out salvation within us through Jesus Christ (Heb 13:21).It is the work of the Holy Spirit working within us.Therefore, we must believe that God’s work is still at work within us, just as He worked in Jesus Christ.Christ, who submitted to death on the cross, received glorious life from God.We, too, must always surrender our self and greed to the cross and wait for God’s work.This is because, after being condemned by the old covenant of works—that is, the Law—it was put to an end through death in Jesus Christ.The new covenant accomplishes all of God’s good will through the law of spirit of life inscribed within us (Philippians 1:6).It fulfills the completion of the Law, namely love.The new covenant is the gateway to love. 6. Who did this work? It was done by God, who raises the dead.He is the God who accomplishes all things and all matters according to his will.The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are the foreshadowing, guarantee, and power of our salvation.Although the redemption of Jesus Christ was accomplished once and for all, its application to us varies depending on the individual.While there are those who understood immediately upon hearing the Word, there are others who come to understand gradually, like the dawn.However, if our faith is like that of a minor who has not yet understood, the inheritance of this covenant is entrusted to a guardian (Galatians 4:1-2). 7. What is our mission? Accept and confess the fact that you are dead to sin in Christ.You must realize your worthlessness toward God and repeat this process.There are no quickly. Truth is applied through repetition."I die every day."
