(English)
It is truly disheartening that people fail to understand, no matter how often I emphasize the teachings through lectures and writings.
To be "disheartening" (*hansim*) implies a state of a "cold heart." If the earth is cold and unfeeling, the favor of Heaven drifts away, and one becomes subject to the chilling, destructive energy of *suksaljigi*.
There is no need to speak of those who should not exist in this world; but if one becomes a person whose presence makes no difference—neither here nor there—of what use are they?
I have emphasized the principle that "knowing the order of priority brings one close to the Way." Understanding what must be done first and what follows draws one near to the enlightened; yet, the petty person fails to grasp this even after being told a hundred times—a truly regrettable thing. One who only realizes the truth after being pointedly criticized or scolded is unfit for the work. By then, regret comes too late. If one understands only when things are spelled out explicitly, one is nothing more than a fool; how, then, could the Sages and Divine Spirits possibly respond or commune with such a person?
They are simply falling short of the mark.
It is when one reaches a difficult situation that realization dawns and a task of great importance arises. This is the nature of the *Gan* (Mountain/Stopping) dispensation. Only by entering the "dog's corner" (*guseok*)—the obscure or humble periphery—can one view the whole and identify dangers early, thereby fulfilling the duty of a guardian. I thunder the command: "Realize the meaning of *Ji* (Stopping/Stillness)."
The end is the beginning. That which reaches the end must become fruit to be reborn at the beginning. It is said that one must become the "True Master of Fifteen" (Sib-o Jinju) to achieve this rebirth. One becomes a "True Person" (Jin-in) only by receiving the vital essence of a renowned mountain.
In material terms, the greatest treasure found in the mountains is wild ginseng. Wild ginseng bears red berries, but it takes fifteen years for it to finally produce the true, characteristic red fruit. This illustrates the importance of the passage of time and maturity.
Humans, too, become capable of procreation after fifteen years; this is why the number fifteen is referred to as the "True Master" (Jinju). It represents the number five (the Central Yellow Ultimate) multiplied by three. The conclusion is that if one fails to bear fruit despite having lived out those years, that existence was in vain.
I urge you to become a "True Master." This corresponds to the *Qian* (Mountain) over *Kun* (Earth) hexagram, known as *Qian* (Humility). To remain idle and let the opportunity slip away at this critical, imminent moment would result in a regret that pierces the very heavens. Yet, if one remains completely ignorant, not even regret will remain—for there will be only total destruction.
What, then, is the legacy that the Primal Parents of Heaven and Earth wish to leave behind? Far from caring for one’s aging parents, to depart this life before them is an act of supreme unfilial impiety—a transgression so grave that one could never face one’s own ancestors; such a person becomes a vagrant of heaven and earth, shunned and scourged by the spirits. There is no corner of the sky or earth left to hide in. With no one to truly understand one’s plight, one suffers in silent anguish; yet, knowing the cry will return only as an empty echo, one still shouts aloud to the mountains and streams. As I exhale a deep sigh—bitter as swallowing mustard—
Is that the cry of a crow echoing overhead?
Even after *Cheoseo* (the end of summer heat), the sweltering air lingers.
Cease the lamentations of waiting for "someday";
Find your true calling and devote yourself wholeheartedly.
The *Sangsahwa* (resurrection lilies) bloom again on the path of Mt. Bulgap.
Delay too long, and there will be no one left to care for you;
Every moment lost to hesitation is a precious waste.
Put it off for tomorrow, and in a flash, all is ruined.
If you wait until old age to seek a place to lean,
You are no different from a helpless, immature infant.
Who else but you can step up when the moment is right?
On the final stretch of the marathon, beyond the hill lies the finish line;
Who else can take the steps that only I can take?
Will I simply sit and falter, ending up a straggler?
If I speak rashly, act foolishly, and let my attention wander,
I will lose the magnificent path that drifts ever further away.
Rise and run—time is a whip that shows no mercy.
The once-vibrant greenery has already begun to fade;
Fallen leaves crunch beneath my feet on the way to the spring.
Soon, the cold wind will scatter them all away.
With only time remaining, what thoughts should fill my mind?
Will my anxious heart only deepen the melancholy of autumn?
Shaking off such worries, I draw the "Sword of the Heavenly King" and strike.
Cesad los lamentos de esperar a que llegue "algún día";
Si demoráis, el momento pasa y no queda nadie que cuide de vosotros;
En el tramo final del maratón, más allá de la colina aguarda la meta;
Perderás el magnífico camino que se aleja en la distancia;
El verdor, antaño vibrante, ya ha comenzado a marchitarse;
