Water eryngo is a native perennial herb found in swamps and low wetlands from New Jersey to Georgia. This glaucous plant's tuberous root sends up a simple stem, 1 to 5 feet in height. The long, taper-pointed leaves, 1 to 2 feet in lenghth and 1/2 to 1 inch wide are net-veined and entire or remotely toothed. Blooming in August, the small, whitish flowers grow in spikes subtended by a whorl of bracts.

Diaphoretic, diuretic, emetic, expectorant, stimulant. Water eryngo root is very useful when chewed to promote the flow of saliva and thus aid digestion. In large doses, it acts as an emetic. Originally a folk remedy, late nineteenth century medical doctors commonly prescribed it as an expectorant, stimulant or diuretic. It has also been applied as a remedy for chronic laryngitis and bronchitis, dropsy, stones, inflammations of the sexual and urinary organs, and impotence. American Indians used it as an emetic and diuretic, and in infusion form as a febrifuge. It is a good substitute for senega snakeroot. 
5 사용법
- 우리기; 물 0.5리터에 1티스푼
. 하루 2-4번 음용
- 팅크; 10-20방울 복용
Infusion; Use 1 heaping tsp. root to 1 pint boiling hot water. Take 1 tbsp. two to four times a day.
Tincture; A dose is from 10 to 20 drops.
