오늘은 월드 시리즈 기간동안에도 상을 받은 적 있는 쉴링에 관한 기사인데요, 요즘 고액 연봉에 대한 글을 많이 접하지만 과연 오랫동안 팬들에게 기억되고 있는 선수는 누굴일까요?

SEATTLE-- Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Curt Schilling, the co-MVP of the World Series,was named Friday as winner of the prestigious Hutch Award for 2001.
A 20-game winner for the D-Backs last season, Schilling continues to be a big winner off the field as well, giving back to communities financially and spiritually.
The Hutch Award, named after former MLB player and manager Fred Hutchinson, is awarded annually to the player who displays "honor, courage and dedication to baseball while overcoming adversity in their professional or personal lives."
Schilling, whose wife, Shonda, has been treated for skin cancer, will receive the award Jan. 28 in Seattle where Hutchinson grew up. Seattle is also home to the world-renowned Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Hutchinson played for the Detroit Tigers and managed the Tigers, St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds. The award was initiated in 1965 -- the year after Hutchinson died of cancer -- and previous winners include Mickey Mantle, Sandy Koufax, Carl Yastrzemski, Al Kaline, George Brett and Willie McCovey. Jason Giambi was the Hutch Award recipient last year.
"Receiving this award means a great deal to me and my family," Schilling said. "It is so important that we all make the effort to bring as much awareness (to curing cancer) as we can. I am truly honored." Schilling has long been known for his community-related endeavors. In 1993, he initiated "Curtâ?™s pitch for ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease"). His personal donations, and money raised from a charity golf tournament, have accounted for more than $1.5million for ALS research.Since returning to his Arizona roots in 2000 via a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies, Schilling has contributed more than $1 million to groups such as the United Way and ALS chapters in Phoenix and Philadelphia. Schilling, 34, has acknowledged his on-going battle with tobacco addiction and has become a leader in educating kids about the dangers of tobacco use.
Hall of Famers Bob Feller and Tommy Lasorda will present the award to Schilling at a luncheon at SAFECO Field on Jan. 28 and the D-Backs right-hander will receive the award itself -- a crystal baseball -- at The Seattle Post-Intelligencerâ?™s annual Sports Stars of the Year banquet that night.

명예의 전당 수상자인 밥 펠러와 토니 라소다가 1월 28일 세코필드구장에서 쉴링에게 상을 수여할 것이다. 디백스 오른손 투수인 그는 상, 크리스탈 야구공을 받을 것이고 그 날 밤 올 해 선수들의 만찬회가 있을 것이다.
