[NOTICE]
Since I'm trying to contain the number of participants within no more than 10
due to the nature of this study group and limited seatings,
current members are fixed as below.
It means that even though you've had an interview a long time ago and joined a few times
it doesn't automatically give you the green light to participate.
If you happen to be absent more than a month in a row,
please give me a notice and I won't count you out
otherwise I would assume you're not willing to attend anymore
so unoccupied seat will be passed to a new commer.
If you wish to attend after a long-time absence, please contact me first. :)
CURRENT MEMBERS are...
Tia, Andy, Simon, (Miisu), Matthew, Sun, James, Kim,
Grace, (Sujin), (Sanghwa), Danny, Amelia, Cecilia, Mya, Jae-Sang
Minutes of the meeting on 6/13
We had 4 daring English talkaholic joining last Sat., me, Grace, Danny and a new comer Jin. (Welcome!!! ^________^)
We introduced each other as there was a new comer, Jin, and moved on to a duscussion session. Danny cast a question why grooms are thought to afford a house in Korea society and we expanded this talks to Korean wedding cultures. Grace was seeking advices what we had to do to make dreams come true and we shared a lot of ideas. Danny suggested to start small things and my idea was materializing the dream and acting on it. Jin told us listing what we wanna do would be helpful. Jin's topic was about the recent outbreak of MERS which hinders a lot of members from attennding study, whether Samsung medical center has to take the biggest blame.
The debate topic was that if it is acceptable that Abercrombie & Fitch didn't hire a Muslim woman wearing headscarf during job interview because the employer assumed she would be reluctant to comform to its dress code. The U.S court sided with a Muslim woman but we talkaholics had different ideas.ㅎㅎ Danny and Grace thought even though the company's action was despicable, there's no ligal problem and it was just their choice of workers. Plus, given that the position was sales staff, looking is something most entrepreneurs would consider when hiring, and looks included not only pysical appearance but also style, meaning that wearing headscarf could matter even though it could be morally criticized. But Jin and I argued that if the company failed to prove the practice of wearing headscarf affect adversely to its business, such an action should be banned because it was a discrimination against people based on their religion.
The turnout at the study was small but it was still very fruitful debate thanks to fabulous members and their passion!!
We four tried a new restaurant which turned out quite sucessful especially with nice dumplings and continued to chat ceaselessly, hence English talkaholics~~ㅎㅎ
Thank you for coming against the odds and hopefully see you all again in good shape next Saturday!!
