if vs whether

다음과 같은 경우에는 whether 대신 if를 쓸 수 없음.

1. 부정사가 이어지는 경우

   I don't know whether to accept or to refuse. 받아들여야 할지 거절해야 할 것인지 모르겠다.

2. or not이 이어지는 경우

   I don't care whether or not she's coming. 그녀가 오건 말건 상관하지 않아.

  ◆ if를 사용하면 or not이 문장 뒤로 가서

   I don't care if she's coming or not.처럼 사용한다.

3. 주어절로 쓰이는 경우

   Whether it rains or not doesn't matter. 비가 오건 말건 상관이 없다.

4. if와 whether 차이 

   Let me know whether you are coming or not. 오실지 안 오실지를 알려 주세요.

   Let me know if you are coming or not. 오신다면 알려 주세요.

   ◆ if는 조건(conditional), whether는 선택(2 alternatives)를 표현한다.

   Let me know if you have any questions. 질문이 있으면 알려 주세요.

   Let me know wehter you have nay qauestions. 질문이 있는지 없는지 알려 주세요.
