Reflections in Hawaii
The vast blue sea stretches endlessly beneath the boundless sky,
White waves roll toward islands lush with verdant foliage.
Warm breezes greet the traveler as flowers bloom in every season,
White birds soar through the clouds while the sun hangs leisurely overhead.
Tall palm trees cast their shadows to welcome the visitor from afar,
The gentle strains of music stir a deep longing for home.
Though my body dwells in this paradise, my heart remains a wanderer,
Gazing toward my homeland across the distant waters and clouds. Across the clouds and sea, I gaze from afar at my distant homeland.
The pleasant climate evokes a sense of leisure,
Yet the vast, distant land stirs a feeling of solitude;
Fierce white waves surge, stirring the spirit of an immortal.
Evergreen trees shade places teeming with tourists;
Is the sight of the scantily clad romantic, or merely lewd?
High prices make it no place for the poor—a pitiful plight.
The wealthy come and go, catching fleeting glimpses of the sea,
Indulging without restraint, blurring the line between beach and bedroom;
Surfers abound, yet do they not also face the turbulent waves of the world?
Unpredictable winds and rains mirror the folly of humankind;
Has the mild climate, constant through the seasons, swayed the human heart?
Controversies over nudity vanished long ago.
Though air traffic has dwindled compared to the past,
Crowds of travelers still fill the coastal roads;
Yet people worry, lamenting a decline in tourism.
I stayed for five days, performing a ritual to soothe ancient sorrows,
But who—of what race or creed—will truly believe and follow the Divine?
Only the indigenous people, who once lost their identity, shall find true life.
To the downtrodden living in hillside shacks on Honolulu’s outskirts:
Do not lament or harbor resentment for having been pushed aside;
For if you endure, you may yet rise anew in the coming Great Transformation.
Should you escape the volcanic eruption, you may survive the tsunami;
Restoring a faith that has faded is the urgent task at hand.
The tides of destiny, ebbing and flowing, return without fail.
The celestial realm of the ancients looms faintly in view,
Descending now to the earth below. As the Heaven of Ten Thousand Bliss is realized,
Steel your heart once more to welcome the Angel in White.
Foolishly captivated by worldly trends and chasing empty dreams,
I now hear the lamentations of the encroaching path to death;
Yet, even the most palatable food is of no use without the Way.

mas la tierra vasta y lejana despierta un sentimiento de soledad;
Árboles de follaje perenne dan sombra a lugares repletos de turistas;
disfrutando sin freno, desdibujando la línea entre la playa y el dormitorio;
Vientos y lluvias impredecibles reflejan la insensatez de la humanidad;
multitudes de viajeros aún llenan las carreteras costeras;
no se lamenten ni guarden resentimiento por haber sido desplazados;
escucho ahora los lamentos del camino hacia la muerte que se avecina;
