Acts 27:42-43

제한 억제 동사 O from Ving : O에게 V하지 못하게 하다.

① from ⦗제한·억제⦘ ⦗doing을 수반하여⦘ :

㉮ S+prevent A from ~ing <S는 A가 ~ing 하지 못하게 하다.>

keep O from Ving 용법 : they tried to keep him｜from leaving them. 

그들은 예수님께서 자기들을 떠나지 못하게 하였다.

keep O from Ving : (어떤 일·행동이 일어나지 못하게) 방해하다, 막다, 억제하다 (keep+[목]+[전]+[명]) keep the pipe from leaking 파이프가 새어나지 않도록 막다 방해하다, …하지 못하게 하다(prevent) What has kept you from helping her? 어째서 그녀를 아직 도와주지 않고 있습니까 제지하다, 방해하여 …시키지 않다(restrain), 가까이 못하게 하다(from). keep a person[oneself] from smoking 남에게 담배를 못피우게 하다[피우지 않고 있다].

㉯ S+prevent A from ~ing <S는 A가 ~ing 하지 못하게 하다.>

◉ 그는 아팠기 때문에 거기에 갈 수 없었다.

His illness prevented [stopped hindered kept, prohibited, refrained ] him from going there.

As [Since, Because, Seeing that, Now that ] he was ill, he could not go there.

= Because of [Owing to, On account of, Thanks to, On the ground of ] his illness, he could not go there.

= He was so ill that he could not go there.

too ill to go there.

= His illness forbad(e) him to go there.

= If he had not been ill, he could have gone there. Luke 24:16

ban, hinder, prevent, prohibit, keep, protect, refrain, restrain, deter... + A(O) + from B(Ving)

• I can’t refrain〔keep (myself)〕from laughing. 웃지 않을 수 없다

• What hindered〔prevented, stopped〕you from coming?

(무엇에 걸려 못 왔는가→) 무엇 때문에 못 왔는가.

•My daughter keep me from studying english.

•The storm prevented us from going on a trip yesterday.

•The fog prevented the plane from taking off.

•We must protect ourselves from diseases.

•We should protect my baby from catching cold.

•She could not restrained herself from laughing. 그녀는 웃음을 참을 수 없었다.

•ban a person from driving a car 아무에게 운전을 금하다.

┈• Nothing can deter him from (doing) his duty. 어떤 일도 그의 의무 수행을 막을 수는 없다.

 ② 물주구문에서

  ㉮ 사람주어 + cannot + 동사 --- 人主構文 =무생물 주어 + prevent + O + from- Ving --物主構文

= 무생물주어 + forbid + O + to 부정사 *prevent 대신에 keep, prohibit, hinder, restrain으로 대신 쓸 수 있다.

ex) I could not go there｜on account of the storm. = The storm ( ) me from going there.

= The storm ( ) me ( ) go there. *on account to = because of = owing to = thanks to -- 때문에

As [Since, Because, Seeing that, Now that] I am ill, I cannot attend the meeting.

= Because of [Owing to, On the ground of, On account of, Thanks to] -이유 전치사구

my illness, I cannot attend the meeting. = I was so ill that I cannot attend the meeting.

= I was too ill to attend the meeting.

= My illness prevents [keeps, prohibits, hinders] from attending the meeting. 물주구문

= My illness forbids me to attend the meeting.

㉮ they were kept from recognizing him.

from ⦗제한·억제⦘ ⦗doing을 수반하여⦘ : ban, hinder, prevent, prohibit, keep, protect, refrain, restrain, deter... + A(O) + from B(Ving)

prohibit A from B(Ving) : A가 B하는 것을 금지하다.

   prevent A from B(Ving) : A가 B하는 것을 막다.

      · They tried to prevent the flu from spreading.

  protect A from B : A를 B로부터 보호하다.
