If a vessel is still the water inside it is also still, but if a vessel is agitated its contents will also be agitated. The same may be said for the relation between body and mind, and again between clothing and body. Ultimately, at the base of the body are the shoes, and visitors to temples should take especial care to observe customs with respect to the shoes, feet, and walking.

Always wear socks. d) Wear shoes properly. e) Do not step on or put on someone else's shoes. f) After removing shoes, place them together neatly and evenly. g) Do not run or walk overly quickly within temple grounds. h) Do not drag or shuffle shoes or feet when walking. I) Do not wear shoes with excessively high heels.
