Music 43 or 44; and 45 or 46; and 79.1, 79.2, 79.3, 79.4, 79.5, 79.6.

Six credits in ensemble performance from Music 70 through 78 as assigned by the Conservatory of Music.

In addition to the course listings above, an approved recital, and approval of the faculty are required for the bachelor of music degree. A successful jury examination in performance must be completed at the conclusion of each semester of Music 79 (Performance).

Students taking Music 79.3 will present to the faculty a longer performance jury,

at which time their overall progress in the pro ram will be eval‎uated,

and permission to continue in the program granted or denied.

COMPOSITION

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in music (or its equivalent from a foreign institution) from an accredited institution of higher learning. If the bachelor's degree is in an area other than music composition, applicants must demonstrate, by means of placement examinations, a high level of competence in music theory, ear training, music history, keyboard skills, and composition.

Applicants must submit a portfolio consisting of legible copies of their compositions. (Please do not send fewer than 3 scores or more than 5.) Include tapes if available. Classwork, such as theory exercises, are not accepted as original compositions; they may not be included in the application portfolio.

The composition faculty meets to assess the scores and then invites selected applicants to come for an interview which includes tests in musicianship.
