엘림을 떠나 신 광야로 들어가니 출애굽한지 만 한달째 였습니다. 식량이 떨어지는 시점이 된 것입니다. 하나님의 시점은 먹을 것이 있느냐 혹은 먹일 능력이 있느냐가 아닙니다. 가르침대로 사는지 시험해본다고 하십니다. 백성들은 불가능과 결핍을 말하지만 하나님은 공급을 통한 순종의 여부를 살피겠다고 하십니다.

1. 집단적 반발
이미 여론이 형성되어 모세와 아론을 대적하는 여론형성이 끝난 상태입니다. 대체로 그렇지만 특별한 해결책을 제시하는 것이 아니라 불평과 원망이며 그 책임을 물을 자를 찾는 마녀사냥입니다. 모세는 명확하게 지적합니다. 너희의 불평은 하나님을 향한 것이라고 짚어줍니다. 타락한 인간은 끊임없이 희생양을 찾습니다. 가인은 아벨을 회중은 모세를 사울은 다윗을 희생양으로 지목하고 죽이려고 합니다.

2. 하나님의 해결책
하나님은 이미 계획을 갖고 계십니다. 메추라기와 만나를 준비해 놓으신 것입니다. 소돔과 고모라에는 유황비를 내리신 하나님께서 이스라엘에게는 만나와 메추라기를 비처럼 쏟아부어주십니다. 악한 자를 향한 긍휼입니다. 우리가 아직 죄인되었을 때에 .. 죄를 짊어지고 죄와 함께 살며 죄에 동화되어 파멸에 이르는 우리의 인생을 긍휼히 여기시고 용서하시고 채워주시고 고쳐주시는 은혜와 사랑에 감사와 찬양을 올려드립니다.

3. 광야의 추억
신명기 8:2-6
[2] 네 하나님 여호와께서 이 사십년 동안에 너로 광야의 길을 걷게 하신 것을 기억하라 이는 너를 낮추시며 너를 시험하사 네 마음이 어떠한지 그 명령을 지키는지 아니 지키는지 알려하심이라 [3] 너를 낮추시며 너로 주리게 하시며 또 너도 알지 못하며 네 열조도 알지 못하던 만나를 네게 먹이신 것은 사람이 떡으로만 사는 것이 아니요 여호와의 입에서 나오는 모든 말씀으로 사는 줄을 너로 알게하려 하심이니라 [4] 이 사십년 동안에 네 의복이 해어지지 아니하였고 네 발이 부릍지 아니하였느니라 [5] 너는 사람이 그 아들을 징계함 같이 네 하나님 여호와께서 너를 징계하시는줄 마음에 생각하고 [6] 네 하나님 여호와의 명령을 지켜 그 도를 행하며 그를 경외할찌니라

예레미야 2:2-3
[2] 가서 예루살렘 거민의 귀에 외쳐 말할찌니라 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 네 소년 때의 우의와 네 결혼 때의 사랑 곧 씨 뿌리지 못하는 땅, 광야에서 어떻게 나를 좇았음을 내가 너를 위하여 기억하노라 [3] 그 때에 이스라엘은 나 여호와의 성물 곧 나의 소산 중 처음 열매가 되었나니 그를 삼키는 자면 다 벌을 받아 재앙을 만났으리라 여호와의 말이니라

예레미야 31:3
[3] 나 여호와가 옛적에 이스라엘에게 나타나 이르기를 내가 무궁한 사랑으로 너를 사랑하는고로 인자함으로 너를 인도하였다 하였노라

4. 하나님의 본심
정죄가 아니라 긍휼의 눈으로 우리를 보고 계십니다. 생명의 떡으로 자신을 주신 하나님의 아들처럼 아버지도 용서와 긍휼과 위로로 우리를 대하십니다. 싸매시고 어루만지시고 치료하셔서 세워 온전케 하시려는 하나님의 계획입니다. 그의 위대하심과 자비하심을 드러내 찬양받고자하는 의도가 아닙니다. 지극히 작은 나와 같은 사람을 향하여 손을 내미시고 붙드시고 돌보시는 그는 사랑의 하나님이시며 우리의 아버지이십니다.

Bread from Heaven Like Rain

Exodus 16:1~16
After leaving Elim, they entered the Wilderness of Sin. It was exactly one month since the Exodus, and the food supply had run out. From God’s perspective, the question was not whether there was food or whether He had the ability to provide. His concern was whether the people would live according to His teaching. While the people spoke of impossibility and lack, God declared that He would test their obedience through His provision.

1. Collective Rebellion
Public opinion had already formed against Moses and Aaron. Instead of offering solutions, the people complained and grumbled, searching for someone to blame in a kind of witch hunt. Moses pointed out clearly: their complaints were directed against God Himself. Fallen humanity constantly seeks scapegoats—Cain targeted Abel, the congregation targeted Moses, Saul targeted David, all seeking to destroy them.

2. God’s Solution
God already had a plan. He had prepared quail and manna. The same God who rained down sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah now poured down manna and quail like rain upon Israel. This is mercy toward the undeserving. While we were still sinners… He looked upon our lives burdened with sin, living in sin, and being conformed to destruction. Yet He showed compassion, forgave, filled, healed, and restored us. For this grace and love we lift up thanksgiving and praise.

3. Memories of the Wilderness
Deuteronomy 8:2–6
“Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you. Observe the commands of the Lord your God, walking in obedience to Him and revering Him.”

Jeremiah 2:2–3
“This is what the Lord says: ‘I remember the devotion of your youth, how as a bride you loved Me and followed Me through the wilderness, through a land not sown. Israel was holy to the Lord, the firstfruits of His harvest; all who devoured her were held guilty, and disaster overtook them,’ declares the Lord.”

Jeremiah 31:3
“The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.’”

4. God’s Heart
He does not look at us with eyes of condemnation but with eyes of compassion. Just as the Son of God gave Himself as the bread of life, so the Father deals with us in forgiveness, mercy, and comfort. He binds up wounds, gently touches, heals, and raises us to wholeness. His plan is not to display His greatness and demand praise, but to reach out His hand to the smallest and weakest, to hold, care for, and sustain us. He is the God of love, our Father.
