Section 31 : Man - ta(慢他,만타)... Distraction and Laxity... Item 36.
Man(慢,만) means facing that which is not truly in the heart(absent-mindedness),
and Ta(他,타) means thinking about external affairs.
If the single-minded focus of the heart is rooted in sincerity,
and the single-minded focus of sincerity is rooted in ceaselessness,
how could thoughts of external affairs ever sprout and stir?
Consequently, being poor and of humble status cannot make that sincerity weary, likewise,
being rich and noble cannot disturb or corrupt that sincerity.
[Original Classical Text]
■ 慢은 不存乎心也요 他는 念外事也라 (만은 부존호심야요 타는 염외사야라)
Man is the heart not being presant.
and Ta is thinking about external matters.
■ 心一念이 在乎誠이요 誠一念이 在乎不息則外事가 安能萌動乎아
(심일념이 재호성이요 성일념이 재호불식즉외사가 안능맹동호아)
If the heart′s single thought rests in sincerity,
and snicerity′s single thought rests in ceaselessness,
how can external maatters possibly sprout and move?
■ 是以로 貧賤이 不能捲其誠하고 富貴가 不能亂其誠하느니라.
(시이로 빈천이 불능권기성하고 부귀가 불능난기성하느니라.)
Therefore, poverty and lowliness cannot wealth and nobility cannot
disrupt one′s sincerity.
[Philosophical Commentary]
Offering sincerity with absolute single-mindedness iss intended to align
the focus―or the cycle―of the human being(the microcosm)
with the cossmic center(the macrocossm), thereby attaining the supreme
state of Sin-in-hab-il(the unity of the divine and the human).
The realization achieved through such sincerity is the most valuable and
immutable thing a human being can ever obtain.
Therefore, it cannot be compared to fleeting,
ever-changing worldly conditions like wealth, poverty, nobility, or lowliness.
Such transient states present no obstacle whatsoever to maintaining ceaselless sincerity.
『 Man(慢,만) refers to an absent mind detached from its true core,
and Ya(他,타) means dwelling on external, worldly matters.
If the singular focus of your heart is entirely anchored in Sincerity,
and th singular focus of your Sincerity remains absolutely ceaseless,
how could any external distractions ever take root and disturb you?
When you reach this state, the hardships of poverty and low
social status cannot make your spirit weary, nor can the tempptations
of wealth and temptations of wealth and high nobility corrupt your devotion.
[Commentary]
Cultivating Sincerity with unwavering, single-minded focus is a spiritual
practice to align the frequency and center of the human being(the microcosm)
with the ultimate center of the universe(the macrocosm).
Its ultimate purpose is to achieve the divine state of Sin-in-hab-il― the perfect
oneness of humanity and the cosmos.
The spiritual rewards reaped grom this pure Sincerity are the most precious,
eternal, and immutable treasures a human being can acquire.
Because they transcend the fleeting, unstable conditions of worldly
life ― such as wealth, power, or poverty ― these external circumstancess
can never become an obstacle to your ceaseless journey of Sincerity."
