세 드래곤은 습지를 벗어나자 거대한 호수에 도달했다.

안개가 물 위에 얇게 깔려 있었고, 빛도 어둠도 아닌 애매한 새벽 전의 시간.

하늘은 회색빛으로 잠들어 있고, 물결은 불길하게 검게 빛나고 있었다.

레드 드래곤: “여전히… 새벽도 아니고, 어둠도 아니군.”

블랙 드래곤: “중간은 없다. 결국 빛 아니면 어둠이지.”

화이트 드래곤: “…아니야. 어쩌면 그 사이에 답이 있을지도 몰라.”

그 순간, 호수 표면이 거칠게 일렁였다.

익시언과 바다 괴물들의 습격

물속에서 솟아오른 것은 인간도, 드래곤도 아닌 익시언이라 불리는 자들이었다.

그들은 바다의 저주받은 전사.

몸은 푸른 비늘과 지느러미로 덮였고,

눈은 축축하게 빛나며,

손에는 뼈창과 산호 칼날을 쥐고 있었다.

호수 전체가 흔들리며 더 깊은 곳에서 거대한 바다괴물들이 함께 솟아올랐다.

촉수가 수십 개 달린 괴물,

갑옷 같은 껍질을 두른 거북이 같은 거대 수생체,

날카로운 이빨을 드러내며 호수 위로 뛰쳐오르는 비늘 뱀.

전투 시작

레드 드래곤: 불길을 토해 호수 표면을 끓게 만들었다.

“물도, 피처럼 끓어오르게 해주마!”

블랙 드래곤: 어둠의 손을 뻗어 익시언 전사들을 물 밖으로 끌어올렸다.

“물속이든 어디든… 죽음은 피하지 못한다.”

화이트 드래곤: 빛으로 촉수를 쏘아내며 말했다.

“여긴 물이 많아… 조심해! 나도 바람으로 막아볼게!”

바람과 빛이 합쳐져 물보라를 흩트리고, 드래곤들의 브레스가 호수 위에 폭발했다.

호수의 어둠은 그 자체로 살아 움직이는 듯, 끝없이 적들을 토해냈다.

마치 바다 그 자체가 “쓸모없는 것은 삼키겠다”고 외치는 듯했다.
