[1][2]
But of these things be not ashamed, lest you sin through human respect:
Non ti vergognare delle cose seguenti
e non peccare per rispetto umano:
et ab iteratione sermonis auditus
et a revelatione sermonis absconditi.
Et eris vere sine confusione
et invenies gratiam in conspectu omnium hominum.
Ne pro his omnibus confundaris,
ne accipias personam, ut delinquas:
Of the law of the Most High and his precepts, or of the sentence to be passed upon the sinful;
della legge dell'Altissimo né dell'alleanza,
della sentenza per assolvere l'empio,
de lege Altissimi et testamento
et de iudicio, iustificans impium,
[19]~[21]
ABRAHAM, father of many peoples, kept his glory without stain:
Abramo fu grande antenato di molti popoli,
nessuno ci fu simile a lui nella gloria.
Abraham magnus pater multitudinis gentium,
et non est inventa macula in gloria eius;
He observed the precepts of the Most High, and entered into an agreement with him; In his own flesh he incised the ordinance, and when tested he was found loyal.
Egli custodì la legge dell'Altissimo,
con lui entrò in alleanza.
Stabilì questa alleanza nella propria carne
e nella prova fu trovato fedele.
qui conservavit legem Excelsi
et fuit in testamento cum illo.
In carne eius stare fecit testamentum,
et in tentatione inventus est fidelis.
For this reason, God promised him with an oath that in his descendants the nations would be blessed, That he would make him numerous as the grains of dust, and exalt his posterity like the stars; That he would give them an inheritance from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.
Ideo iure iurando statuit illi
benedici gentes in semine eius,
crescere illum quasi terrae cumulum
et ut stellas exaltare semen eius
et hereditare illos a mari usque ad mare
et a Flumine usque ad terminos terrae.
[4][5]
For his trustworthiness and meekness God selected him from all mankind;
Lo santificò nella fedeltà e nella mansuetudine;
lo scelse fra tutti i viventi.
In fide et lenitate ipsius sanctum fecit illum
et elegit eum ex omni carne.
He permitted him to hear his voice, and led him into the cloud, Where, face to face, he gave him the commandments, the law of life and understanding, That he might teach his precepts to Jacob, his judgments and decrees to Israel.
Gli fece udire la sua voce;
lo introdusse nella nube oscura
e gli diede a faccia a faccia i comandamenti,
legge di vita e di intelligenza,
perché spiegasse a Giacobbe la sua alleanza,
i suoi decreti a Israele.
Auditam fecit illi vocem suam
et induxit illum in nubem;
et dedit illi coram praecepta
et legem vitae et disciplinae,
docere Iacob testamentum suum
et iudicia sua Israel.
PHINEHAS too, the son of Eleazar, was the courageous third of his line When, zealous for the God of all, he met the crisis of his people And, at the prompting of his noble heart, atoned for the children of Israel.
Et Phinees filius Eleazari tertius in gloria est,
zelando timorem Domini;
When Samuel approached the end of his life, he testified before the LORD and his anointed prince, "No bribe or secret gift have I taken from any man!" and no one dared gainsay him.
ab omni carne non accepi ”;
et non accusavit illum homo.
[8][11]
With his every deed he offered thanks to God Most High, in words of praise. With his whole being he loved his Maker and daily had his praises sung;
In ogni sua opera glorificò
il Santo altissimo con parole di lode;
Sancto et Excelso in verbo gloriae;
de omni corde suo laudavit Dominum
et dilexit Deum, qui fecit illum.
The LORD forgave him his sins and exalted his strength forever; He conferred on him the rights of royalty and established his throne in Israel.
Il Signore gli perdonò i suoi peccati,
innalzò la sua potenza per sempre,
gli concesse un'alleanza regale
e un trono di gloria in Israele.
Dominus purgavit peccata ipsius
[21][22]
Thus two governments came into being, when in Ephraim kingship was usurped.
But God does not withdraw his mercy, nor permit even one of his promises to fail. He does not uproot the posterity of his chosen one, nor destroy the offspring of his friend. So he gave to Jacob a remnant, to David a root from his own family.
neque perdet a stirpe nepotes electi sui
[28][29]
Happy the man who meditates upon these things, wise the man who takes them to heart!
Beato chi mediterà queste cose;
le fissi bene nel cuore e diventerà saggio;
Beatus, qui in istis versatur sermonibus;
qui ponit illa in corde suo, sapiens erit semper.
If he puts them into practice, he can cope with anything, for the fear of the LORD is his lamp.
Work at your tasks in due season, and in his own time God will give you your reward.
Compite la vostra opera prima del tempo
ed egli a suo tempo vi ricompenserà".
