Bible Matrix ⑦: Historical & Scientific Views on Daniel and Revelation
Part 2. Revelation
Revelation 4 - Throne in Heaven and Worship in Heaven(c.AD 8,580~)
Revelation 4:1~8 - Throne in Heaven at Scorpio(AD 8,580~)
Revelation 4:3 – (1) And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne
☞ Revelation 4:3 - And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne.(NIV); And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.(KJV); The one sitting on the throne was as brilliant as gemstones - like jasper and carnelian. And the glow of an emerald circled his throne like a rainbow.(NLT); The one sitting there was as beautiful as precious stones, like jasper and carnelian. All around the throne was a rainbow with clear colors like an emerald.(ERB)
○ “And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian” means that ‘the appearance of God the Father was brilliant as gemstone’.
○ Jasper is the most brilliant diamond of all gemstone. This meaning is the same as Revelation 21:11, it reads, “Its light or brilliance was like a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal(KJV/NIV)”, which represents the purity and the holiness of God the Father. In a word, God the Father means ‘light’ as ‘holy’.
○ Carnelian is ruby, which represents God’s wrath against sin and the justice of God who makes fair judgement. In short, God the Father means ‘righteous.’ [Happiness Helper - Lecture on the Book of Revelation (17) Glory of the Throne [Revelation 4:3-6]
○ “A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne(NIV)” means (1) that all around the throne was a rainbow, among them, clear colors was like an emerald (ERB), and (2) that the glow of an emerald circled his throne, and it looked like a rainbow (NLT). At this time, emerald and rainbow represent the mercy, the grace, and the covenant of God (Genesis 9:12). In a word, it means that God the Father is ‘merciful’.
○ In conclusion, the appearance of God the Father was ‘brilliant as gemstone’, and although ‘white or white clothes’ are not expressed here, as I mentioned in Bible Matrix ⑦_214, God the Father also wears ‘white clothing’ (Daniel 7:9) and sits on ‘the great white throne’ (Revelation 4:2, 20:11).
