Most items that you once put in the garbage bin can now go in your Green Bin or recycling bins.

Take large amounts of recycling to the transfer station for free

If you have large amounts of recyclable items that will not fit in your recycling bin or recycling bags, you can drop those items off for free at the City's main recycling depot, located at the Vancouver South Transfer Station.

Green Bin Program: Prepare food scraps and yard waste for collection

If every resident in Vancouver recycled food scraps for a whole year, we’d remove 5,500 trucks worth of food scraps from the landfill.

Live in a house or duplex?

You can put all your food scraps, plate scrapings and food-soiled paper in your Green Bin for weekly collection.

Live in a multi-unit building?

Apartments, condos, or mixed-use (commercial and residential) buildings that already receiveCity garbage and yard waste collection service may also be suited for City food scraps collection.

Extra food scraps and yard waste

Your Green Bin must shut completely to be picked up by the City's automated trucks. If you often have items that will not fit in your bin, you have options.

• Purchase a composter from the City and make your own compost
• Get a larger Green Bin
• Drop off extra yard waste (no food scraps) at the transfer station or landfill for a fee
