They're grieving once again in Thailand. The inland province of Uttaradit is safe from tsunamis, but here the destructive power of water has again confounded and appalled an unprepared community. It's taken life too on a far smaller scale this time, but randomly and cruelly nonetheless. This is the worst flash flood in decades in Thailand, huge areas swallowed up by the silt-laden rain waters, railroads cut off along with highways, towns and villages.
The Prayom family are desperately fighting to save their house from this inundation, but they're struggling to hold back the water.
"In twenty or thirty years, I have never seen anything like it," she says, "we've been trying to divert the water for two days. I'm worried about the house." And with good reason: it's already completely swamped.
Well, the Prayom family now have a river running through the bottom of their house. You can see that they've tried their best to sandbag it, but it's a losing battle, and to give you an idea of the force of the water, this big metal gate has been ripped clean off its hinges.
This might all seem like a big adventure for the children, but this is a potentially deadly playground. Already at least one person's been electrocuted as the waters have hit power cables.
One of the region's main rivers, the Yom, has burst its banks, spewing millions of liters into residential suburbs and cutting people off from help.
We find Kamen Tamarha Sanches family paddling from their submerged house. The water lapping a neighboring treetop.
"My house is over there," he says, "one story is totally under water."
The local temple hasn't been spared either. This devoutly Buddhist country, praying it will be spared further rain.
