English Service
Today sermon is a very historical sermon. Because this is my first English speaking sermon in my whole life. However, my spiritual father pastor Ko always said disciple need to have at least three different languages. It's not just speaking languages. With this language, you can preach, pray and make the disciple. You need three languages to proclaim the gospel and to make disciple and to pray. How many languages do you have? Just one, Korean? Can you preach in Korean? Next week maybe I'll pick someone, and he/she speak?
Now, on behalf of my father's will, I have the second language, which is English. I praise the lord and thanks to the lord.
Today Torah portion is Ve'etchanan, and this week we are going to have Ekev.
וָאֶתְחַנַּן Ve'etchanan: beseech, asking eagerly, strongly praying.
עֵקֶב Ekev : Heel(Achilles)
- This word came from Jacob. Ekev indicates Jacob, so this week we will learn about the Jacob through this Torah portion.
Fortunately, last week Torah portion Va'etchanan, God thought us something significant thing.
Deu 4:12 And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of the words, but saw no [a]form; you only heard a voice.
- What is it mean?
קֹול דְּבָרִים Qol Dbarim : Voice words
Qol : Voice
Dbarim : words
It is very important for us to know about the Voice. So now we start English service but why? For English service what do we need? Do we need fluent English? What is the meaning of language?
Hundreds of year ago, western missionaries came to Chosun, Korea. They came to Korea and the preached gospel. What did they use to preach the gospel? Korean? Chinese? French? Them to preach Korean people, what did they need? Language, sure. But what kind of the language?
The essence of language is the Voice. You need to have the voice. If you are a fluent English speaker, can you preach the gospel? No! Even though you are fluent in English, you wouldn't preach the gospel. You need the Voice.
The words, Dbarim, is not a human being's language. The words are God's language. This is God's master plan, God's will. So how can human being recognize his will, and listen to his heart, and master plan through his voice? Only Human being has this voice. Animals can not have this voice, they cry. When wolf roars, like Owl~ this is not a voice. It's just roaring. This Voice is all about the Dbarim.
With this Voice, people can have the power to represent God. People can have power, and the authority to do his will in this world. With this voice, we can preach the gospel and bring the salvation to the humanities. Without this Voice, nobody can preach the gospel. This Voice is very important.
Hundreds of year ago, missionaries came to Chosun, Korea. With this Love, Heart, they lived not for themselves but for others. They loved the Korean people. They have never known Korean people in their life, but they came to give their life for someone. If you have this heart, you can have to Voice and Qol Dbarim.
Our English service is also the same. We want to love each other. Not only Korean all the people on Earth is one family, one body one heart, but we also have the same father, we need to become one. Oneness. If you have this heart, eager, then God will give you Qol Dbarim. Then this Voice brings the power of the heavenly kingdom. If you have a voice for yourself alone, then your life filled with the power of darkness. Every day you tried to speak out this Voice, but if you speak out a voice for yourself alone, then this voice bring the power of darkness. I hope through Va'etchanan Torah portion; you have this Voice.
This verb is a special verb in Hebrew. It is Hipael verb. This verb has a unique pattern. All the Hebrew has three verbs, et or hit. Sometimes we make a Hiphil verb. When we are serving someone, we make a Hiphil verb. For example, Eat is a regular verb. Sometimes we need to express giving food to others not only eating for myself. It is to make someone eat. We need to make Hiphil verb to serve others and do ministry. Without a hiphil verb, you have no life to serve someone.
What kind of Life can you build up with Hiphil verb? You can build up two human being co-existence. It is a unique verb.
This Life is a higher level of spiritual Life. For example;
Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. Who lives? I or Christ?
- This kind of Life you need to have Hipael verb.
Va'etchanan is a prayer. Who's praying? Moses or God? Why is it written in Hipael verb? This indicates Moses, and at the same time, God's also praying.
Va'etchanan also teaches us about a human being. Without this verb, we cannot understand a human being.
לְבַב Lebab : Heart. Inner man. Mind.
People usually say we cannot understand other human being's heart. It is impossible to understand a woman's heart especially. Would you like a cup of coffee? Real or Not? Especially on my wife's birthday, I really don't know about her heart that what really she wants. Ten years ago on her birthday, I bought a beautiful flower. Like hundreds of rose. At the moment, she wasn't my wife yet; she was my girlfriend. I brought her this flower, and she was mad. She said, "Oh my goodness, why would you buy this expensive stuff? You wasted Money!" I was shocked.
A few weeks ago, one of her disciples gave her flower for her present, and she was delighted with it. Why did she really want? What's her real heart? I still don't know. Maybe next year, I will try to give her flower.
Why do people believe that It is impossible to know other's heart? The reason is that the heart is complicated. In Lebab, there are two Beit. The heart consists of two beit. Beit means house in Hebrew. In our heart, there are two houses. House also refers to a system.
This is why people's heart called Lebab because there are two beit. But when we speak of God's heart, we don't use two beit; instead, we only use one beit.
לְב Leb : God's heart
Don't use two beit, when you speak of God's heart. It's just one beit.
The human beings have two beit, two systems; What kind of system?
1) Evil System --> Evil Inclination
2) Good System --> Good Inclination
What is inclination? It is a kind of system that makes you act in a particular way. With this Evil system, you always act for the evil. The problem with these systems is they co-exist in at the same time.
Rom 7:6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
How it runs
Evil System --> Literal Torah
Good System --> Spiritual Torah
Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
The Spiritual Torah gives you Life. But the Literal Torah gives you death.
Rom7:19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.
If you want to do something, shouldn't you do it? But for some reason, even if you want, you do not do. It's because you have TWO systems.
When you live in the evil system, all human beings live by the flesh. They believe that is the reality. When human beings were born in the flesh, they start to live in an evil system house, because they believe their origin is flesh.
I was born on the 19th of February, 1968. I'm 50, pretty old right? When I was born, I started to believe that flesh as of myself. I lived accordingly by the flesh. But when do you think I was truly born? I was born before the creation. Isn't it right? Do you really believe in that?
This evil system believes my origin is flesh.
Jesus often asks people where they come from. From flesh or Spirit? All the human beings started from the evil house. This house always makes you act evilly. There is no Life for good. The fruit produced out of this system is always evil, so, there is no righteousness man.
What is God's salvation? It is to cross over the Evil House to the Good House. How can we practice living for Good? Va’etchanan explains this.
Roman 7:21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.
My spirit wants to live for good, at the same time evil is with me. This is what Paul said, What a wretched man!
Deut 3:25 I prey, let me cross over and see the good land beyond the Jorden, those pleasant mountains, and Lebanon.
Moses and God beseech at the same time.
ֻעִבְרִ Ebri : Crossover / Hebrew came from this word.
God called Abraham 'Ebri' which it means Hebrew man. In Jesus Christ, all of us are a Hebrew man. No matter where you come from, you become Hebrew man If you crossover the Evil system to Good system.
Now Moses is praying to crossover and seeing the good land. What is the good land?
הָאָרֶץ הַטֹּובָה Haeretz Hatoba : Good land
Haerets : Land
Hatoba : Good
The Spiritual Torah and good Inclination are part of Good Land. You need to know about the land.
אֶרֶץ Eretz : Land
It consists of two words. 'E' = I / 'Retz' = Want
Eretz indicates our desire. There are two kinds of desire. People's lives are based on Desire. I'm not talking about the real land you step on. If you desire something, you build up your life upon the desire. If you want to get married, that desire become your ground, the basement. And all of you life build upon the ground.
So, What is Life?
Eretz in the Torah is not a literal term. Even if it describes as ground in the literal term, it is our desire. We build up our system upon this ground.
רָץ Ratz : Desire
Hebrew has a quite different way of reading. You read from right to left. And when the word enters into a person, it flips word in another way, which it can also be read from left to right.
When Ratz enters into you, it produces Tzar.
Ratz --> צַר Tzar : To form. To shape
Your desire forms the evil system, the evil house, and this system runs your Life. This system always has Power of You.
In the Torah, when God says about human or man, what do you think of the man? Do you think the man is just a physical body? No, man is an inner being. A man is formed from the desire.
Gen 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
In Gen1, God created man. Why is it different in Gen2? What is the difference between 'created' and 'formed'? God already created man in Gen1, but why would God do something similar again in Gen2?
God is doing something in our heart, in which there are two men formed. One is evil, and another one is good. When you live in the evil system, we called this evil thought or evil inclination, and there is only death.
When Jesus spoke of crucifixion, we confess that we are crucified. But who died? My body has never changed, even after I confessed that I'm crucified. Who is crucified? A Man in the evil system who formed by God is crucified.
In Deuteronomy, human being refers to a tree.
Deu 20:19 “When you besiege a city for a long time, while making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an ax against them; if you can eat of them, do not cut them down to use in the siege, for the tree of the field is man’s food.
We call it the Evil System the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil. We need to crossover onto the tree of Life. If you understand these two systems, you can crossover.
Why does the new testimony emphasize the darkness? Why it refers to Christ as the light, and Why do we need a light? We need to see the good land. But when we were born, we think there is only one world, which is built upon the evil system.
But when you see the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, you can see the good land. There is another man. I don't have to live for a man in the evil system.
In Galatians, God showed the evil power in public. You don't have to be held by the evil power. You can see the good land, the promised land.
Rom8:6 For to be [a]carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Is your mindset in the Flesh or the Spirit? What would you say if you are asked where you come from? From Flesh or the Spirit?
Gen2:17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you[a] shall surely die.”
God said you shall surely die, but Adam and Eve didn't die. Instead, their good system was dead. God breathed his spirit into a good man, but when they ate the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, only evil man can be formed.
Luke13:23 Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there few who are saved?”
What do you think of this? Few or Many? It doesn't matter. Jesus didn't respond to this question. Here he says,
24 “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.
What is the narrow gate? Tzar also means narrow.
You need to realize human being is formed. Our flesh is not a human being. A human being is inner being, and there are two men formed by God.
Without realizing what Tzar is, you can never enter the promised land. If you think your heart is just an emotion, you can never be saved. If you want salvation, strive to enter through the narrow gate. There are two gates, two houses, and two systems. Be eager to know this.
But many will only seek to enter the kingdom of God for everlasting life.
25 When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’
יָדַע Yadah = To know. Relationship
God never had a relationship with the evil system. Our Lord only knows a good system, and it is the Kalar, the bride of the lord.
Jesus said I do not know you, where you are from. But they didn't answer.
26 then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’
Thier want is survival. They desire to eat and drink. Why do they need God? They need God to survive. Jesus asked them where they come from, but they replied, " We ate in your presence." Jesus does not know those people.
"And you taught in our streets" They are never inside of his house. The Evil inclination always wanders around.
27 But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’
- They don't have spiritual Torah.
In Gen2, God formed man, HaAdam. HaAdam is in your heart. If you build up the evil house, satan comes in and subdue your life. All other evil spirits will come into the house.
If you know the good system, If you seek for Va'etchanan, If you live for others, then you can live in the good land. Your land becomes good land; therefore, you can build up the good house. Then Jesus Christ lives in this house and lives in you forever and ever.
* Prayer
Lord, Let me see the Good Land, Haaretz Hatova. Now I see these two systems. Now I want to cross over from the Evil System to the Good System. From this house built just for myself to the house based on Your Love.
