Subject: Lack of Basic Courtesy Sets the Limit of Any Relationship
While sharing Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu around the world, I occasionally meet people who cannot offer even the simplest greeting. When someone is unable to say “Hi,” it is rarely about the word itself. It reveals a deeper issue — a lack of sincerity, an absence of respect, and a self-centered mindset that makes genuine communication impossible.
Such individuals may appear in business or official situations, and sometimes I must interact with them for practical reasons.
But relationships with people who lack this basic level of courtesy never last. Their hearts remain closed, they avoid responsibility, and they communicate only when it suits their own interests. Inevitably, the relationship breaks, because there is no mutual respect to sustain it.
Courtesy is not a small gesture. It is the foundation of trust and the minimum requirement for any meaningful human relationship. When that foundation is missing, there is no reason — and no obligation — to continue the connection.
