📘 Reflection on the 2025 USA Lecture — by Ben De Busser (Belgium)
My reflection on the lecture of master Kim in the USA 2025
CJN Kim teaches us about the earth and um-yang. Kimu is so much more then a series of movements. If trained good and well, you get to learn the invisible world. This part of us is 99,9% of wat happens around us. Getting to understand why we move certain ways, who guides us and how it all connects, starts by emptying our minds. Think of nothing to feel the energy. Literally go with the flow. Let the energy guide you into feeling more and connecting with yourself.
Watching this lecture given in the USA this year (2025)below, allows me to reflect on my martial arts experiences.
In haedong kumdo as well as in hapkido I stay in the visible world.
I think to much, I’m to focused on the world around me as in what I can see. But given time and training, I will learn to feel so much more.
The movements we make in Martial Arts in general are physical and very detailed. But everything is driven by the mind. And the mind is not fully connected with the invisible world.
I remember his teachings in Bulgaria, Germany, The Netherlands and of course here in Belgium this year.
The healing sessions we had and the moments in between were he lectured us about feeling the energy. It takes me back to what we, in Belgium, have changed in our movements for the better due to his teachings.
Using our body first. Letting the sword follow the body, and the body following the mind, the eyes, the energy, the flow, the invisible world…
Everywhere in the world, our cultures are very different. But they are all the same. They say what you have to do to be good, what you can’t do, what must or mustn’t be done… All kinds of things are planted in our brains and we are forged into being someone without learning to feel.
So in life in general, martial arts specific, we are learning and doing without feeling but mostly following. The interaction with the invisible world is lost to most of us. By doing our kimu, we get to clear our mind.
Meditating and learning to let go so we can feel and therefore grow. That is the biggest achievement we can try to achieve. It takes a lot of training, patience and perseverance. But in the end, it will be worth it.

🔹 GM Kim’s Comment
Ben, thank you for your sincere reflection.
Your words show that your awareness is opening beyond visible movements
toward the deeper flow of nature and energy.
In Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu, training is not about adding more movements,
but about removing the unnecessary — so the body can follow the mind,
and the mind can follow nature.
Continue to empty, feel, and observe.
If you stay on this path with patience and perseverance, your perception will naturally expand, and your sword, body, and energy will return to one flow.
I appreciate your dedication and steady effort in Belgium.
Let us continue to follow the energy.
