THE BIGGEST SIN ATTEMPTED BY MARIA (MARY), MOTHER OF JESUS
Mary tried to stop the Ministry of Jesus! But she failed!
Mark 3
21 And when his family heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.
KJV translated the word to friends but family is correct though KJV is the most accurate translation. Let’s check Greek NT
3:21 καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ παρ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἐξῆλθον κρατῆσαι αὐτόν· ἔλεγον γὰρ ὅτι ἐξέστη
Key question is the translation of << οἱ παρ᾽ αὐτοῦ >>
Literally this can be translated into < those who are along with Him>, which means < those who live with Him>
Who are they? Family!
So, the family tried to lay hold on Him and went to the crowd whom Jesus was preaching to:
Mark 3
31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
Mary and His brothers didn’t want to come inside the crowd to hear the Gospel preached by Jesus! Then Jesus said the harsh words by saying Who is my mother or my brothers?
Did Jesus honor His mother as the Law said? Yes! By telling the truth to her!
Did Jesus know the intention and the purpose of the visit by His mother and His brothers? Yes! He knew their inner hearts already in advance!
Did Mary come there to help Jesus by bringing some food and fruits? Nope! We can find no clue for such intention because they waited outside and wanted to talk with Him
What was the purpose of Mary’s visit there?
Mary came there in order to lay hold on Him or to ask Him to stop the ministry! Or at least she wanted to ask Him to tone down the speech as His reputation among the Jews was not good.
How can we know such evil intention by Mary?
Jesus spoke the harsh or disrespectful words against Mary!
Jesus didn’t say < Look at my mother and my brothers!>
Jesus didn’t say < Look at the mother of God as I am Son of God!>
Jesus didn’t say < Behold! Mary the Queen of Heaven!>
Jesus didn’t say < Look at my mother and remember her in the future because she is specially chosen by God>
Jesus didn’t say < Mary is very faithful and therefore I hope you will respect her!>
But Jesus said < Who is my mother?>
And < 35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.>
Didn’t Mary do the will of God? No! Indeed, she was trying to stop the ministry of Jesus, the ministry of the salvation!
Why didn’t Mary and His brothers stop Him and take Him home?
Because they feared the crowd as the Jews feared the crowd and postponed the timing of arresting Jesus.
Mt 21:46
46 But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.
Mk 12
12 And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people :……
Mary and His brothers had the same thoughts as the Jews, because they are all human.
Why?
Hebrews 2
15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Why?
Romans 5
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Mary was not the exception! Paul wrote this later than Mary’s attempt to lay hold on Jesus, after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus but Paul didn’t mention the exception for Mary.
Death came upon Mary and thereupon, Mary couldn’t avoid sinning and feared about the Jews.
Mary was not listening to Jesus by participating in the crowd, but wanted to talk with Jesus from outside.
Did Jesus encounter any altercation or quarrel with Mary and His brothers?
Nope!
How wise Lord Jesus was when He handle this kind of potential dispute with Mary in the presence of the crowd! His brothers may have tried to take Him home by force. But He avoided all the potential altercation.
Was Mary sinless? Nope! Apostle Paul never mentioned the exception for Mary in Romans 3:10-20, 5:12.
Was Gospel Mark wrong? No! Gospel Matthew has the same statement.
Mt 12:
46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
If you are brainwashed to believe Mary is immaculate, sinless, wake up as she is not so. Immaculate Conception theory is an Immaculate Deception!
Did Jesus honor Mary above the Word of God?
No! in fact Jesus rebuked her!
What if Jesus met Mary and His brothers and they took Him home? If Jesus obeyed Mary as His mother, and He stopped His ministry, then the Redemption of the human race wouldn’t have happened! The salvation of the human race would have vanished!
We are glad that Jesus didn’t come out of the crowd and wasn’t taken home by Mary and His brothers, but He continued His ministry until the victory on the Cross when He cried < Tetelestai> < It is finished>!
The great work of Salvation, the World Redemption was finished on the Cross, by our Lord Jesus Christ who shed His own Blood to pay for our sins, to purchase the pardon for our sins, and we are forgiven by virtue of His Blood and Death on the Cross.
We are glad that our Lord Jesus didn’t yield to His mother Mary as she tried to stop His ministry!
In fact, Jesus was shown to Mary Magdalene first after the great victory of Resurrection! The disciples and Mary went home (temporary dwelling places in Jerusalem), (John 20:10), but Mary Magdalene had no home in her mind. She had the extremely extraordinary faith in Jesus, even to attempt carrying the body of Jesus (Jn 20:15)! That’s why Jesus showed Himself to Mary Magdalene first after Resurrection as she deserved it!
Praise the Lord Jesus who created Adam and Eve and all human race, including Mary as we all human race were on the loins of Adam and Eve (Hebrews 7:10) when Jesus created them in the likeness of Himself. (Gen 1:26)
Praise the Lord Jesus who gave us the eternal life by His own death!
