Section 27: No severing, no annihilation
“Subhūti, suppose you think, ‘The Tathāgata has not, from the perfection of characteristics, attained Anuttarā Samyaksaṃbodhi.’ Subhūti, do not compose the thought, ‘The Tathāgata has not, from the perfection of characteristics, attained Anuttarā Samyaksaṃbodhi.’ Subhūti, composing this thought, the one who is developing the mind of Anuttarā Samyaksaṃbodhi is then speaking of the severence and annihilation of dharmas. Do not compose this thought. Why? One who is developing the mind of Anuttarā Samyaksaṃbodhi does not speak of a characteristic of the severence and annihilation of dharmas.
Chapter 27. Neither Cut nor Annihilate
"Subhuti, if you think that the Tathagata has realized the Anuttara Samyak Sambodhi without possessing the complete physical characteristics, Subhuti, don't think that the Tathagata has realized the Anuttara Samyak Sambodhi without possessing the complete physical characteristics."
"Subhuti, if you think that those who have resolution to attain the Anuttara Samyak Sambodhi must say all the dharmas be cut and annihilated, you should not think that way because those who have resolution to attain the Anuttara Samyak Sambodhi do not have desire to claim that they have done any cutting and annihilating at any features of dharmas.
Chapter 27.
"However, Subhuti, if you think that the Buddha realizes the highest, most fulfilled, and awakened mind and does not need to have all the marks, you are mistaken. Subhuti, do not think in that way. Do not think that when one gives rise to the highest, most fulfilled, and awakened mind, one needs to see all objects of mind as nonexistent, cut off from life. Please do not think in that way. One who gives rise to the highest, most fulfilled, and awakened mind does not contend that all objects of mind are nonexistent and cut off from life. That is not what I say."
Section ⅩⅩⅦ. It is Erroneous to Affirm that All Things are Ever Extinguished
Subhuti, if you should conceive the idea that the Tathagata attained the Consummation of Incomparable Enlightenment by reason of HIs perfect form, do not countenance such thoughts. The Tathagata`s attainment was not by reason of His perfect form. 〔On the other hand〕Subhuti, if you should conceive the idea that anyone in whom dawns the Consummation of Incomparable Enlightenment declares that all manifest standards are ended and extinguished, do not countenance such thoughts. Wherefore? Because the man in whom the Consummation of Incomparable Enlightenment dawns does not affirm concerning any formula that it is finally extinguished.
