Subject: Invisible Footprints of Martial Arts
What Archaeology Teaches Us About the Body, Energy, and Life
------
While visiting the National Museum in Bloemfontein, South Africa,
I saw a scientific explanation of ancient human footprints.
On the flight afterward, I began to write my thoughts
— ideas that came to mind the moment I saw those traces.
The museum’s core exhibition themes — energy, traces, and time — can expand into the essence of martial arts training and the nature of human existence.
They also connect to the perspectives of martial arts, philosophy, and healing.
---
A. Martial Arts Philosophy Found in the Timeline of Archaeology
Scientists read magnetic traces left in iron particles within layers of earth
to understand the past.
They analyze a single footprint preserved in volcanic ash
to discover how ancient humans walked.
○ Traces shaped by invisible forces
○ Memories of steps that cannot be seen anymore
Martial arts is no different.
We begin with visible movements,
but what remains in the end is:
○ The direction of Ki engraved inside the body
○ The footsteps of consciousness left in our lives
⚔️ Traces of Training = The Magnetic Field of Existence
Just like Earth’s magnetic field,
our bodies also contain flows of energy (Ki).
Correct posture aligns the poles of the body
Natural breathing stabilizes the inner magnetic field
Right thoughts and intentions set the direction of flow
When the mind becomes unnatural or confused,
Ki becomes tangled and scattered.
Life can reverse course, becoming painful or difficult.
But through proper training —
when energy begins to flow again —
the mind regains calm,
the body becomes healthy,
and life becomes smoother and less painful.
○ Martial arts is the lifelong task
of engraving invisible traces inside the body.
In order for training — body and mind cultivation —
to leave true traces,
one must first understand the Basics.
And Basics are the very principles
that govern all things in nature.
This is what Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu teaches.
In this text, the footprints revealed by archaeologists resonate with the footprints of martial arts training.
👣 The Philosophy of Footprints — What Do We Leave Behind?
Footprints from 3.6 million years ago testify: “Human beings are those who can stand upright.”
○ The direction we stand
→ our thoughts
○ The intention behind each step
→ our actions
○ The footprints left behind
→ the result of both
These three elements
draw the arc of a person’s life.
This is where Won-Bang-Gak (circle–square–angle) philosophy
can also be reflected.
□ Where are you walking toward?
What traces are you leaving behind?
Those traces become our training —
and the outcome of our human life.
■ The Clock of Nature vs. The Clock of Training
○ Archaeologists say,
“Earth records time through magnetic fields.”
○ Martial artists say,
“We record time through our bodies and minds.”
The Earth’s history
has evolved through magnetic upheaval.
The human mind also changes direction restlessly.
Through repeated mistakes and correction, our steps toward the right path become growth.
The process of stumbling, breaking, and colliding — then standing up again through firsthand experience —
this is both training and the story of human life.
💠 Core Message
■ The Earth leaves traces as History.
Humans leave traces by Training.
That is called
"Human Study (cultivation)"
■ Martial arts means recognizing
the invisible flow of energy
and learning to follow it.
That is the foundation and essence of training.
Because it guides not only martial arts but one’s entire way of living.
If this is not understood,
training has not yet begun.
B. An archaeologist's "Nature remembers traces" and an understanding of the Jinyeong Ssanggeomryu's philosophy of Kimuche (Kimu-Body, 氣舞體)
Let's talk about the fact that "nature remembers traces" and the philosophy of "kimu-che" gained from the museum.
Let us connect
the museum’s message — Nature remembers traces —
with the philosophy of Kimuche.
🌍 Earth Remembers Footprints — Humans Build Kimuche (Kimu-Body, 氣舞體)
I saw a picture at the museum:
When wild animals suffer from ticks,
small birds come and remove them.
All living things in nature
support each other’s survival
through unseen connections.
■ Nature tells us:
○ Nature remembers every trace of life, and those traces help complete the next existence.
Just as Earth preserves human footprints, humans accumulate the vibrations of their thoughts and actions
inside their own body —
good and bad alike —
because every living being does this.
The process of building Kimuche
is deeply connected to the state of one’s heart.
It depends on one’s thoughts, words, and actions.
Through training, one experiences “Everything arises from the mind”
and understands it more deeply.
● Kimuche can be expressed in many ways:
1. Follow the natural waves as they lead.
2. Notice where the energy of nature is going.
3. Live in harmony with the energy of nature.
It unites the mind and the body.
5. Living surrounded by the light that nature provides.
6. Living according to spirituality
7. Always live with a heart of prayer and bowing.
It can be expressed in various ways, such as through other means.
These expressions allow each person to use their own unique expressions in the process of experiencing and realizing the fundamental principles that are most fundamental.
Accumulating the love of nature (energy, wavelengths) through such a process is the Kimu-che.
When explaining the invisible parts, the truth of countless people who simply read books and understand them is immediately revealed.
In other words, enlightenment is something that is recognized through each individual's experiences, so if it is recited as knowledge accumulated through books, its bottom will be revealed, just like an empty can clamor.
🌬️ A trace of life left by a single breath.
Just as a single breath carries life,
when the human heart (+E) matches nature’s heart (+E),
we begin storing Nature’s Love inside.
These invisible vibrational traces
are the very process of forming Kimuche.
It is not easy.
It takes time.
Because this path does not change movement — it changes existence (consciousness).
In other words:
1. Change your thoughts — it is how you survive
2. Find your original mind
3. Transform and renew consciousness
4. Encounter nature
5. Experience "Trinity"
⚔️ The Sword’s Trajectory = The Vibration of Nature
The sword is not merely a weapon.
It is a tool for cultivating body and mind.
Its direction, speed, and intention
reveal the invisible:
> When the sword’s path becomes one with nature’s vibration,
the trace remains in the body,
and the body becomes existence.
Sword follows the body.
Body follows the mind.
The mind follows nature.
📌 What Does a Human Leave in Nature’s Record?
○ A good heart becomes a vibration that saves life (healing)
○ Right words and actions become noble resonance (technique & philosophy)
○ These form the footprints of Kimuche
○ They become a companion and a guiding light
throughout one’s entire life
> Visible movements disappear,
but invisible footprints of Ki are eternal.
✨ Conclusion
Earth remembers every footprint of life. Humans engrave energetic footprints through mind, intention, breath, and sword trajectory.
Those accumulated traces
are the process of Kimuche —
and proof of a life completed through training.
For example, in a healing session (energy experience), the transmission of light energy through acupuncture through each organ soon becomes an invisible trace. In other words, the flow of each energy is invisible but engraved.
A person with the third-eyes (Cheonmok) might be able to see traces of it.
🌬️ Kimuche — Footprints of Love Stored in Breath
Just as life is contained in a single breath,
In the midst of mental and physical training
Only when we can align the human mind (+E) with the mind of nature (+E) does the love of nature accumulate.
This process of accumulation is Kimu-che.
Simple to say,
but a lifetime of work.
Because this is a journey
not of learning movements,
but of transforming existence —
a path with no end.
With calm awareness (Normal Mind, 평상심) and Even Breathing(고른 호흡), with right intention in every word, action, and sword movement,
each vibration aligns with nature’s vibration.
Then energy becomes love,
and love becomes
the invisible footprints inside our body.
○ Kimuche is:
The breath, intention, and action
united with nature
A trace of life that accumulates forever.
● What must a practitioner never forget?
Every breath is a record
Every thought sets direction
Every sword trajectory leaves your heart behind
> Those who only try to look fast
lose depth and stray from Basics.
Only those who build slowly and deeply will possess Kimuche.
Focusing solely on techniques such as cutting or forms may build a strong body, but will never reach the true purpose of martial arts:
Technique, Philosophy, Medicine/Healing.
📌 Final Conclusion
■ Kimuche is:
a body holding nature’s vibration,
a heart holding nature’s love.
Every practitioner must continually return to Basics.
No matter how strong, fast, skilled, or experienced you are —
if you do not know Basics, you lose the path.
And often, you do not even realize it.
The most overlooked truth in training:
○ Direction of energy over form
○ Unity of body and mind over technical precision
○ Harmony with nature’s vibration over winning
Understanding this principle
is the Basic of Basics.
If someone has not learned the Basics,
they can — and should — start again.
> Only those who choose to begin again will reach the end.
✨ Final Words
> Basics are not a beginner’s step.
They are a lifelong law of existence.
To align visible movement
with invisible Ki —
that is the true Basic,
and the path by which martial arts
brings a human being to completion.
