I am among the ministers of God.

나는 하느님의 성직자들 가운데 하나다.

1 Let us today be neither arrogant nor falsely humble. We have gone beyond such foolishness. We cannot judge ourselves, nor need we do so. These are but attempts to hold decision off, and to delay commitment to our function. It is not our part to judge our worth, nor can we know what role is best for us; what we can do within a larger plan we cannot see in its entirety. Our part is cast in Heaven, not in hell. And what we think is weakness can be strength; what we believe to be our strength is often arrogance.

1. 오늘 오만하지도, 그릇되게 겸손하지도 말자. 우리는 이러한 어리석음에서 벗어났다. 우리는 우리 자신을 판단할 수 없으며, 판단할 필요도 없다. 이것은 결정을 늦추고 우리의 기능에 헌신하는 것을 미루려는 시도에 불과하다. 우리의 가치를 판단하는 것은 우리의 역할이 아니며, 우리는 어떤 역할이 우리에게 최선인지, 우리가 전체를 다 볼 수 없는 더 큰 계획에서 무엇을 할 수 있는지 알 수 없다. 우리의 역할은 지옥이 아닌 천국에 있다. 우리가 약함이라고 생각하는 것이 강함일 수 있고, 우리가 자신의 강함이라고 믿는 것은 종종 오만이다.

2 Whatever your appointed role may be, it was selected by the Voice for God, Whose function is to speak for you as well. Seeing your strengths exactly as they are and equally aware of where they can be best applied, for what, to whom, and when, He chooses and accepts your part for you. He does not work without your own consent, but He is not deceived in what you are and listens only to His Voice in you.

2. 너에게 정해진 역할이 무엇이든, 그것은 하느님을 대변하는 음성인 성령이 선정한 것이다. 그의 기능은 또한 너도 대변하는 것이다. 성령은 너의 강점들을 있는 그대로 보고, 그것들이 무엇을 위해 누구에게 언제 어디에 가장 잘 적용될 수 있는지 똑같이 알아차리면서, 너를 대신하여 너의 역할을 선택하고 받아들인다. 성령은 너의 동의 없이는 일하지 않는다. 하지만 성령은 너의 정체에 대해 속지 않으며, 네 안에서 오로지 성령 자신의 음성에만 귀 기울인다.

3 It is through His ability to hear One Voice Which is His own that you become aware at last there is One Voice in you. And that One Voice appoints your function and relays it to you, giving you the strength to understand it, do what it entails, and to succeed in everything you do that is related to it. God has joined His Son in this, and thus His Son becomes His messenger of unity with Him.

3. 성령은 유일한 음성을 듣는 능력이 있으며, 그 음성은 성령 자신의 것이다. 너는 이러한 성령의 능력을 통해 마침내 네 안에 유일한 음성만 있음을 알아차리게 된다. 그 유일한 음성이 너의 기능을 정하여 너에게 전해주면서, 그것을 이해하고 그에 수반되는 일을 행하며, 그와 관련된 모든 일에 성공할 힘을 부여한다. 하느님은 이 일에 있어서 당신의 아들과 결합하셨으며, 그리하여 그는 하느님과의 단일성을 알리는 메신저가 된다.

4 It is this joining through the Voice of God of Father and of Son that sets apart salvation from the world. It is this Voice which speaks of laws the world does not obey, which promises salvation from all sin, with guilt abolished in the mind that God created sinless. Now this mind becomes aware again of Who created it, and of His lasting union with itself. So is its Self the one reality in which its will and that of God are joined.

4. 하느님의 음성을 통해 아버지와 아들이 이렇게 결합하는 것이야말로 구원을 세상과 갈라놓는 것이다. 바로 이 음성이야말로 세상이 따르지 않는 법칙에 대해 말해주고, 하느님이 죄 없게 창조하신 마음에서 죄의식이 사라져 모든 죄로부터 구원된다고 약속하는 것이다. 이제 이 마음은 자신의 창조주를, 그리고 그분이 자신과 영원히 연합되어 있음을 다시 알아차리게 된다. 따라서 그 마음의 자아는 그 안에서 그 마음의 뜻과 하느님의 뜻이 결합되어 있는 유일한 실재다.

5 A messenger does not elect to make the message he delivers. Nor does he question the right of him who does nor ask why he has chosen those who will receive the message that he brings. It is enough that he accept it, bring it to the ones for whom it is appointed, and fulfill his role in its delivery. If he determines what the messages should be or what their purpose is or where they should be carried, he is failing to perform his proper part as bringer of the Word.

5. 메신저는 자신이 전달하는 메시지를 작성하려고 선택하지 않는다. 메신저는 메시지를 작성하는 자의 권리에 이의를 제기하지도 않으며, 그가 전해주는 메시지를 받을 사람을 왜 선택했는지 묻지도 않는다. 메신저는 메시지를 받아들여서 예정된 자들에게 전해줌으로써 메시지 전달자로서의 역할을 이행하기만 하면 된다. 그가 만약 메시지의 내용이나 목적, 혹은 메시지가 전달되어야 할 곳을 결정한다면, 말씀의 전달자로서 고유한 역할을 수행하지 못하는 것이다.

6 There is one major difference in the role of Heaven's messengers which sets them off from those the world appoints. The messages which they deliver are intended first for them. And it is only as they can accept them for themselves that they become able to bring them further and to give them everywhere that they were meant to be. Like earthly messengers, they did not write the messages they bear, but they become their first receivers in the truest sense, receiving to prepare themselves to give.

6. 천국의 메신저들은 그들이 이행하는 역할에 있어서 세상이 임명한 메신저들과 중요한 차이점이 있다. 그들이 전달하는 메시지는 먼저 그들 자신을 위해 의도된 것이다. 그들이 메시지를 더 멀리 전달하여 본래 의도된 모든 곳에 전해주려면, 먼저 메시지를 스스로 받아들일 수 있어야 한다. 땅의 메신저들처럼 천국의 메신저들도 자신이 지닌 메시지를 작성하지 않았지만, 가장 진정한 의미에서 그 메시지의 첫 번째 수신자가 되어, 그것을 다른 이들에게 줄 수 있도록 스스로 준비하기 위해 받는다.

7 An earthly messenger fulfills his role by giving all the messages away. The messengers of God perform their part by their acceptance of His messages as for themselves and show they understand the messages by giving them away. They choose no roles that are not given them by His authority. And so they gain by every message which they give away.

7. 땅의 메신저는 모든 메시지를 주어버림으로써 자신의 역할을 완수한다. 하느님의 메신저들은 그분의 메시지를 자신의 것으로 받아들임으로써 자신의 역할을 이행하며, 그 메시지를 전해줌으로써 자신이 그 메시지를 이해했음을 보여준다. 그들은 하느님의 권위에 의해 부여받지 않은 어떤 역할도 선택하지 않는다. 따라서 그들은 메시지를 전해줄 때마다 이득을 본다.

8 Would you receive the messages of God? For thus do you become His messengers. You are appointed now. And yet you wait to give the messages you have received, and so you do not know that they are yours and do not recognize them. No one can receive and understand he has received until he gives. For in the giving is his own acceptance of what he received.

8. 하느님의 메시지를 받고자 하는가? 그럼으로써 너희는 그분의 메신저들이 되기 때문이다. 너희는 이제 임명되었다. 하지만 너희는 너희가 받은 메시지를 주기를 미루고 있다. 따라서 그 메시지가 너희 것임을 알지 못하고, 그 메시지를 인식하지도 못한다. 그 누구도 주기 전에는 받을 수 없고, 자신이 이미 받았음을 이해할 수도 없다. 주는 것을 통해, 그는 자신이 받은 것을 자신의 것으로 받아들이기 때문이다.

9 You who are now the messengers of God receive His messages, for that is part of your appointed role. God has not failed to offer what you need, nor has it been left unaccepted. Yet another part of your appointed task is yet to be accomplished. He Who has received for you the messages of God would have them be received by you as well. For thus do you identify with Him and claim your own.

9. 이제 하느님의 메신저들인 너희는 그분의 메시지를 받는다. 그것은 그분이 명하신 역할의 일부기 때문이다. 하느님은 너희에게 필요한 것을 주지 못한 적이 없으시고, 그것이 받아들여지지 않은 채 남아있던 적도 없다. 하지만 너희에게 정해진 과제의 다른 부분은 아직 성취되지 않았다. 너희를 대신해 하느님의 메시지를 받아놓은 성령은 너희도 그 메시지를 받기를 바란다. 그럼으로써 너희는 성령과 동일시하며, 너희 자신의 것을 달라고 청구하는 것이기 때문이다.

10 It is this joining that we undertake to recognize today. We will not seek to keep our minds apart from Him Who speaks for us, for it is but our voice we hear as we attend Him. He alone can speak to us and for us, joining in One Voice the getting and the giving of God's Word, the giving and receiving of His Will.

10. 오늘 우리는 바로 이러한 결합을 인식하고자 한다. 우리는 우리를 대신해 말하는 성령으로부터 우리의 마음을 분리하려 하지 않을 것이다. 우리가 성령께 주의를 기울일 때 듣는 것은 단지 우리 자신의 음성일 뿐이기 때문이다. 오로지 성령만이 우리를 대신하여 우리에게 말하면서, 하느님의 말씀을 받고 주는 것과 하느님의 뜻을 주고 받는 것을 유일한 음성 안에서 결합한다.

11 We practice giving Him what He would have that we may recognize His gifts to us. He needs our voice that He may speak through us. He needs our hands to hold His messages and carry them to those whom He appoints. He needs our feet to bring us where He wills, that those who wait in misery may be at last delivered. And He needs our will united with His own, that we may be the true receivers of the gifts He gives.

11. 우리는 성령께 그가 원하는 것을 드리는 연습을 한다. 그럼으로써 우리는 성령이 우리에게 주는 선물을 인식할 수 있게 된다. 성령은 우리를 통해 말할 수 있도록 우리의 음성이 필요하다. 성령은 그의 메시지를 담아 그가 정해주는 자들에게 전할 우리의 손이 필요하다. 성령은 그가 뜻하는 곳으로 우리를 데려갈 우리의 발이 필요하다. 그럼으로써 비참함 속에 기다리는 자들이 마침내 구원될 수 있다. 그리고 성령은 그의 뜻과 연합된 우리의 뜻이 필요하다. 그럼으로써 우리는 그가 주는 선물을 진정으로 받는 자가 될 수 있다.

12 Let us but learn this lesson for today: we will not recognize what we receive until we give it. You have heard this said a hundred times, and yet belief is lacking still. But this is sure—until belief is given it, you will receive a thousand miracles and then receive a thousand more but will not know that God Himself has left no gift beyond what you already have nor has denied the tiniest of blessings to His Son. What can this mean to you until you have identified with him and with his own?

12. 오늘은 단지 다음의 레슨을 배우도록 하자: 우리는 우리가 받는 것을 주어야 비로소 그것을 인식하게 될 것이다. 너는 이 말을 백 번은 들었지만, 여전히 믿음이 부족하다. 그러나 다음은 확실하다: 너는 이 말을 믿을 때까지 천 개의 기적을 받은 다음에 또 천 개의 기적을 받겠지만, 하느님은 네가 이미 가진 것 외에는 어떤 선물도 남겨두지 않으셨고, 당신의 아들에게 아주 작은 축복조차 거절하신 적이 없음을 알지 못할 것이다. 네가 하느님과 동일시하고 그분의 아들과 동일시하기 전까지, 이것이 너에게 무슨 의미가 있겠는가?

13 Our lesson for today is stated thus:

14 I am among the ministers of God,

And I am grateful that I have the means

By which to recognize that I am free.

내가 자유롭다는 것을 인식할 수단을 가졌음에 감사한다.

15 The world recedes as we light up our minds and realize these holy words are true. They are the message sent to us today from our Creator. Now we demonstrate how they have changed our minds about ourselves and what our function is. For as we prove that we accept no will we do not share, our many gifts from our Creator will spring to our sight and leap into our hands, and we will understand what we received.

15. 우리가 우리의 마음을 밝히고 이 거룩한 말이 참임을 깨달을 때, 세상이 물러난다. 이 말은 우리의 창조주께서 오늘 우리에게 보내주신 메시지다. 이제 우리는 이 말로 인해 우리 자신과 우리의 기능에 대한 우리의 마음이 어떻게 바뀌었는지 입증한다. 우리가 더 이상 우리가 공유하지 않는 어떤 뜻도 받아들이지 않는다는 것을 증명할 때, 우리의 창조주가 주시는 수많은 선물이 우리의 시야에 갑자기 나타나 우리의 두 손으로 뛰어 들어올 것이다. 그리고 우리는 우리가 받은 것을 이해하게 될 것이다.
