11 This is the account
of Esau (that is, Edom).
12 Esau took his wives from the women
of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the
00 Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter
of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon
00 the Hivite-
13 also Basemath daughter of Ishmael
and sister of Nebaioth.
14 Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath
bore Reuel,
15 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam
and Korah. These were the sons of
00 Esau, who were born to him in Canaan.
16 Esau took his wives and sons and
daughters and all the members of his
00 household, as well as his livestock
and all his other animals and all the
00 goods he had acquired in Canaan,
and moved to a land some distance
00 from his brother Jacob.
17 Their possessions were too great
for them to remain together; the land
00 where they were staying could not
support them both because of their
00 livestock.
18 So Esau (that is, Edom) settled
in the hill country of Seir.
19 This is the account of Esau the
father of the Edomites in the hill country of
00 Seir.
10 These are the names of Esau's sons: Eliphaz, the son of Esau's
wife
00 Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau's
wife Basemath.
11 The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam and Kenaz.
12 Esau's son Eliphaz also had a concubine named Timna, who bore
him
00 Amalek. These were grandsons of
Esau's wife Adah.
13 The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were
00 grandsons of Esau's wife Basemath.
14 The sons of Esau's wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah and
00 granddaughter of Zibeon, whom she
bore to Esau: Jeush, Jalam and
00 Korah.
15 These were the chiefs among Esau's descendants: The sons of Eliphaz
00 the firstborn of Esau: Chiefs Teman,
Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,
16 Korah, Gatam and Amalek. These were the chiefs descended from
00 Eliphaz in Edom; they were grandsons
of Adah.
17 The sons of Esau's son Reuel: Chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and
00 Mizzah. These were the chiefs descended
from Reuel in Edom; they were
00 grandsons of Esau's wife Basemath.
18 The sons of Esau's wife Oholibamah: Chiefs Jeush, Jalam and Korah.
00 These were the chiefs descended
from Esau's wife Oholibamah daughter
00 of Anah.
19 These were the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these were their
chiefs.
20 These were the sons of Seir the Horite, who were living in the
region:
00 Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,
21 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These sons of Seir in Edom were Horite
chiefs.
22 The sons of Lotan: Hori and Homam. Timna was Lotan's sister.
23 The sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam.
24 The sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. This is the Anah who discovered
the
00 hot springs in the desert while
he was grazing the donkeys of his father
00 Zibeon.
25 The children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah daughter of Anah.
26 The sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran.
27 The sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan.
28 The sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran.
29 These were the Horite chiefs: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,
30 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These were the Horite chiefs, according
to their
00 divisions, in the land of Seir.
31 These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite
king
00 reigned:
32 Bela son of Beor became king of Edom. His city
was named Dinhabah.
33 When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him
as
00 king.
34 When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded
him
00 as king.
35 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in
the
00 country of Moab, succeeded him
as king. His city was named Avith.
36 When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king.
37 When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river succeeded
him as
00 king.
38 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Acbor succeeded him as king.
39 When Baal-Hanan son of Acbor died, Hadad succeeded him as king.
00 His city was named Pau, and his
wife's name was Mehetabel daughter of
00 Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab.
40 These were the chiefs descended from Esau, by name, according
to their
00 clans and regions: Timna, Alvah,
Jetheth,
41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
43 Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom,
according to their
00 settlements in the land they occupied.
This was Esau the father of the

축복을 떠난
에서 (36:1~8)
창세기는 보통 선택 받은 백성의 계보 전에, 방계(傍系) 족속의 계보를 짧게
소개합니다(25:12~18, 19). 따라서 “야곱의 약전(略傳)”에 앞서 에서의 ‘대략’이
나옵니다. 에서는 데라의 후손(셈의 후손)에서 아내를 취하던 전통(24:3~4; 28:2)을
경시하고, 가나안 여인들을 취해 아내를 삼아 스스로 믿음의 계보를 떠납니다.
그뿐 아니라, 여호와 하나님께서 자기 조상 아브라함에게 나타나시어 그 가족과
후손에게 지시하신 약속의 땅, 가나안을 버립니다. 그 땅이 에서와 야곱을 다
용납할 수 없었기에, 에서는 가나안 땅을 등집니다. 또는 자기 동생과 소유가
섞이는 것이 싫었든지(6절), 경제적으로 더 기름진 땅을 염두에 두었든지
(13:10; 27:39) 결국 에서는 세일 산으로 갑니다. 하나님의 약속보다 자기 칼을
의지한 결과입니다(27:40).

- 약속을 생각할 때 지금 보이는 기회를 잡는 것이 합당합니까?
에서의 정착과 발전 (36:9~43)
에서가 세일 산으로 이주하자 가나안 땅은 온전히 야곱에게 맡겨집니다(37:1).
에서는 세일에서 원주민인 호리 족속을 멸합니다(신 2:12). 정복전쟁은 처음
정착할 때 맞게되는 필연적인 대립입니다. 하지만 그 후, 그 땅의 유력자와 결혼
동맹을 맺어 호리 족속을 흡수하고 자리를 굳힌 뒤, 에서는 그 땅을 종족과 거처로
나누어 치리합니다. 또한 에서 이후로 에돔 땅에는 왕이 세워지는데, 왕위가 아들로
계승되지 않고 특정 족속의 한 인물이 왕이 되는 것으로 보아 에돔 왕은 이스라엘
시대의 사사를 방불케 합니다. 앞으로 택한 백성인 야곱 가정이 마음으로 나뉘고,
요셉을 잃은 후 각기 자기 소견대로 살 때(38:1), 에서 가정은 제도의 발전을 이루고,
처처에 도성을 쌓아(35, 39절) 보기에 견고한 나라로 세워집니다.
