    Freeguillians - Malaga - Mijas - Algeciras (15) Passing through the Costa del Sol and the white villages.


  Today, we decided to drive the long journey of over 600 km from the Costa del Sol (the Sun Coast), which is said to have the best scenery on our trip to Spain, passing through the white villages in the area, all the way to Algeciras in the southernmost part of Spain. Jeong-gong's physical condition had somewhat recovered, so the two of us planned to take turns driving. On the way to Malaga, where Picasso's birthplace is located, we pass through the Sierra Nevada mountain range, a national park and a UNESCO-designated ecological reserve home to countless species of flora and fauna. The highest peak, Mulhacén, at 3,481 meters, is the tallest in southern Europe, and the snow-capped mountains with 14 peaks over 3,000 meters are beautiful.

In winter, it is Spain's number one ski resort, attracting many skiers. The vast snow of Russia seen in the movie Doctor Zhivago is actually said to be the winter snow scenes of Sierra Nevada, so one can imagine the snow here.
The water flowing from this perennial snow was supplied to the Alhambra Palace of the Kingdom of Granada, allowing for abundant use of water. Although my companion, despite being sick, wanted to come here after seeing the Alhambra Palace the day before, I regrettably could not go because I advised him to rest. However, I had to be satisfied with seeing this mountain closely while heading to Málaga.

1. Frigilance:

On the way to Malaga, I stopped by Frigiliana, once considered the most beautiful village in Spain. The intense sunlight of the Costa del Sol seemed to have prompted all the houses there to be painted white. The deep turquoise of the sky and sea, combined with the bright white village houses, creates a dazzling harmony. Many areas in Andalusia are covered with white villages, which makes them look even cleaner. The white houses resemble those found in Arab, Greek, or Mediterranean coastal towns. For some reason, the people living here seem simple and clean—perhaps that's just my impression. Being the most prominent white village in Spain, especially in Andalusia, we turned the car in its direction, even though it was not originally on our itinerary.
From the car, the village of Frigiliance can be seen in the distance. It is a beautiful village surrounded entirely by white houses. Indeed, it is worthy of being selected as the most beautiful village in Spain. I decided to stop by and take a look.

. Malaga

The only reason for visiting this city, the gateway to the Costa del Sol, is that the great master Picasso was born here. In the past, it was a city with a long history, having been ruled by the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, and Arabs. Therefore, there are remnants of a mountain fortress and a large cathedral on the hill, but since today's journey is too long, we decided to only visit Picasso's birthplace.

  He was born here and is said to have lived here until he was one and a half years old. The first floor of the building is an exhibition hall, the second floor is an event hall, and the third floor contains various materials that provide insight into his life. Unfortunately, his living room and other personal spaces have not been preserved.

However, with millions of tourists visiting this place from all over the world each year, one can understand its influence. Here, I met a group of Korean tourists. They said they stopped here on their way from Algeciras to Granada. They asked the guide, 'Where is a good place for lunch?' He said, 'If possible, try going to the restaurant on Mijas Hill.' So, we decided to go there.


3.Mijas(미하스)

I drove diligently to Mijas. The blue Mediterranean sea and sky are so beautiful. It has been nine days since arriving in Spain, and it hasn't rained even once. In fact, there have been hardly any cloudy days. Seeing the Mijas signpost, I drove up into the mountains. White houses are lined up neatly, appearing very compact. Of course, there are Roman and Arab-era fortresses and churches, but I was captivated by this scenery. In terms of scenery, this is one of the most remarkable places in Spain.

I came here just as the guide said. Had lunch while looking at the ocean view. The meat barbecue and salad paired with wine were good, but enjoying the view of the Mediterranean was even better. There were groups of Japanese tourists around.

After the meal, I went down to where the car was while looking at the city scenery again.


4.Algeciras

After leaving Mijas, we drove on the highway and arrived at The Mar Hotel at the Algeciras dock to go to Morocco tomorrow. The car's mileage shows 2,134 km. We had driven over 600 km. We bought ferry tickets to Morocco for a one-day tour at 8 a.m. tomorrow. Tonight, we enjoyed ramen, rice, and kimchi stew that we brought from Korea in our hotel room. Then, we went to bed early.

3월17일(토) 행복 순례,Frigiliance-Malaga-Mijas-Algeciras(15) 코스타 델 솔과
하얀 마을을 지나 가다.
 
오늘은 스페인 여행 중 가장 경치가 좋다고 하는 코스타 델 솔(태양의 해변)과 
이곳의 하얀 마을들을 거쳐서 스페인 남단의 Algeciras까지 600여 Km의 긴 여정을
달리기로 했다.
정공의 몸 컨디션이 어느 정도 회복되어 나와 둘이서 교대로 운전하기로 하였다.
피카소의 생가가 있는 Malaga로 가는 길 도중에 국립공원이며 수많은 종류의
동식물이 서식하는 유네스코가 지정한 생태 보호 지역인 씨에라 네바다 산맥을
 지나간다. 제일 높은 산은 Mulhacen이 3,481m로 유럽 남부에서 가장 높으며,
3,000m 이상의 봉우리가 14개나 있는 만년설의 산들이 아름답다.

겨울에는  많은 스키어들이 모여드는 스페인 제1의 스키장이다. 영화 닥터 지바고에서
본 광할한 러시아의 눈은 바로 씨에라 네바다의 겨울 눈 장면이라고 하니 이곳의 눈을
 짐작할 수 있을 것 같다. 
이 만년설에서 흘러 나오는  물을 그라나다 왕국의 아람브라 궁전에 공급하여 풍부하게
 물을 이용하였다고 한다. 전날 아람브라 궁전을 본후 정공이 아픈 몸인데도 불구하고
이곳을 오자고 하였으나 내가 쉬도록 권한 바람에 오지를 못한 것이 유감이였지만
말라가로 가면서 이 산을 가까이 보는 것으로 만족해야 했다.  

1. Frigilance:
Malaga로 가는 길에 한때 스페인에서 가장 아름다운 마을인 Frigiliance에 들려 보았다.
코스타 델 솔의 강렬한 태양 빛은 이들의 집들도 전부 하얀 색으로 페인트한 것 같았다.
하늘과 바다의 짙은 청록색과 희고도 흰 마을의 집들이 잘 조화를 이루어 눈부시게 보인다.
안다루시아의 많은 지역들이 하얀 마을로 뒤덮혀 있어서 한층 깨끗하게 보인다.  하얀 집들은
아랍이나 그리스, 지중해 연안에 볼 수 있는 마을이다. 왠지 이곳에 사는 사람들은
순박하고 깨긋하게 보이는 것은 나만의 생각일까?  스페인 특히 안다루시아에서 가장
돋보이는 하얀 마을이라고 해서 당초에는 일정에 없던 이곳으로 차의 방향을 돌렸다.

차를 타고 저 멀리  Frigiliance마을 이 보인다. 온통 흰 집으로 둘러 싸인 아름다운
 마을이다. 과연 스페인에서 가장 아름다운 마을로 선정될만하다. 한번 들러 보기로 했다.

Malaga
코스타 델 솔의 관문인 이 도시를 방문하게 된 것은 오로지 거장.'피카소'가 이곳에
 태어 났기 때문이다.
옛날에는 페니키아,카르타고,로마 그리고 아랍의 지배를 받아온 오랜 역사를 가진 도시다.
그레서 산위에는 산성이 보이고 큰 성당이 있었으나 오늘의 여정이 너무 길기 때문에
 '피카소' 생가만 들리기로 하였다.

이곳에 1년에 수 백만명의 관광객이 전세계로부터 방문한다니 그의 위력을
알만하다.  여기서 한국 관광객 한팀을 만났다. 그들은  Algeciras를 출발, 그라나다로
가는 길에 이곳을 들렸다고 한다.
'어디가 Lunch하기에 좋으냐'고 가이더에게 물어 보았다. 그는'가능하면 미하스
언덕에 있는 restaurant에 한번 가 보세요'라고 한다. 그래서 그곳에 가기로 하였다.

3.Mijas(미하스)


부지런히 미하스로 차를 몰았다. 지중해 푸른 바다와 하늘, 너무 멋지다. 스페인에
도착하여 9일이 되었지만 한번도 비가 오지 않았다. 아니 구름 낀 날도 거의 없었다.
 Mijas 이정표를 보고 산 속으로 차를 몰고 올라 간다. 하얀 집들이 이어진다.
오밀 조밀하게 보인다. 물론 로마와 아랍시대의 산성이나 성당이 있긴 하지만 이경치에
취하였다. 경치로는 스페인에서 손꼽힐 만한 곳이다.

4.Algeciras
Mijas를 떠난 우리들은 고속 도로를 달려 내일 모로코를 가기 위헤 Algeciras부둣가에
 있는 The Mar Hotel에 도착하였다. 자동차의 마일게이지가 2,134km를 가르킨다.
무려 600km넘게 운전을 한 것이다.
내일 아침 8시에 모로코 1일 관광을 위해  모로코 행 페리 표를 샀다. 오늘 밤은 한국서 갖고 온
라면과 밥, 그리고 김치 찌게를 호텔방에서 맛있게 들었다. 그리고 일찍 잤다.
