㉮ 본향 땅의 참된 의미 - 3 

우리가 본향 땅을 그리워하는 것은, 그 곳에는 누구보다 가까운 부모와 형제와 친척이 있어서 언제나 나를 이끌어 주고, 언제 어느 때 찾아가더라도 나를 한결같이 맞아 주고, 내가 어려움을 당하면 그것을 동정하며 위로해 주고, 나를 기쁘게 맞아 줄 수 있기 때문입니다.

만일 그것이 없다면 본향이 그립고 좋아서 찾아가더라도 간절히 사모하던 심정은 없어지고 도리어 탄식의 조건들을 가지고 돌아오게 된다는 것을 알아야 합니다. 본향 땅에는 반드시 맞아 줄 사람이 있어야 합니다.

본향이라 하면 여러분은 무엇을 연상합니까? 본향에는 자기가 사랑하는 부모가 있고, 사랑하는 마을이 있고, 사랑하는 집이 있고, 사랑하는 형제가 있습니다.

우리가 고향을 떠나 멀리 외국에 가 있게 되면, 그 본향의 범위는 넓어져서 조국, 즉 나라까지 본향으로 들어가게 됩니다. 또, 우주나 혹은 천주란 견지에서 보면, 이 세계가 내 본향이 됩니다. 이렇게 바라보는 범위가 크면 클수록 그 본향의 범위도 비례적으로 커 간다는 것을 여러분은 생활과정에서 잘 느낄 것입니다.

イ）本郷の地の真の意味 - 3 

私たちが本郷の地を慕うのは、そこには誰よりも近い父母と兄弟と親戚がいて、常に私を導いてくれ、いつ、どのような時に訪ねていっても常に私を変わらず迎えてくれるからであり、私が困難な目に遭えば、それに同情し慰労してくれ、私を喜んで迎えてくれるからです。

本郷が慕わしく、恋しくて訪ねていったとしても、もしそれがなければ、切に恋い慕った心情はなくなり、かえって嘆息の条件をもって帰ってくるようになるということを知らなければなりません。本郷の地には、必ず迎えてくれる人がいなければなりません。(23-80,1969.5.11)

本郷というと、皆さんは何を連想しますか。本郷には自らの愛する父母がいて、愛する村があり、愛する家があり、愛する兄弟がいます。私たちが故郷を遠く離れて外国に行くようになれば、その本郷の範囲は広くなり、祖国、すなわち国までが本郷に入ってくるようになります。

また、宇宙、あるいは天宙という見地から見れば、この世界が私の本郷になります。このように、眺める範囲が大きくなればなるほど、その本郷の範囲もそれに比例して大きくなっていくということを、皆さんは生活過程においてよく感じるはずです。(7-22,1959.7.5)

We long for the original hometown because it is where we can meet our par­ents, siblings, and relatives, who are clos­er to us than anyone else, and who will always guide us and welcome us with an unchanging heart any time we go to see them. They greet us joyfully and offer us sympathy and comfort when we have difficulties.

If there were no one like that in the original hometown, even if you went there with a fervent heart, you must understand that on your return, your heart of deep yearning would disappear and you would feel grief. There absolute­ly must be people who welcome you in the original hometown. (23-80, 1969.5.11)
 
What comes to mind first when you think about the original hometown? Your loving parents, beloved village, beloved house, and beloved siblings are there in the original hometown.

If we leave our hometown and are away in another country, the scope of our original hometown expands to become a home­land, a nation. From the perspective of the universe or cosmos, this world is our original homeland.

As your perspective becomes broader, you will feel clearly throughout the course of your life that the scope of your original hometown will also expand proportionally. (7-22, 1959.7.5)
