Scripture Nehemiah 8 : 5 ~ 9 ----------------------------------------------------------- Pastor Khan Aqeel / 2026 - 01 - 11

Let us, response by saying Amen, Amen.

Friends, The temple made by king Solomon & demolished three times. Nehemiah the cup-bearer or the personal secretary of the king. When he heard the walls of temple and gates are burned, he mourned.

Nehemiah 1 : 3 ~ 4

They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace.

The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, & its gates have been burned with fire.”-  When I heard these things,

I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.

He wept and prayed for the reconstruction of the walls and gates. After reconstruction of walls and gates.

All the leaders of Israel gathered in one place. They praised and worshiped God, as we are doing here.

1. All gathered in one place.

All the believers gathered in one place. Those people gathered willingly not by force or by any invitation.

Nehemiah 8 : 1

All the people came together as one in the square before the Water Gate. They told Ezra the teacher

of the Law to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the  Lord  had commanded for Israel.

Nobody sent a message or called them to gather but we can see all the people by themselves gathered & requested to teacher Ezra to taught them about the word of God. ~ You know why we gathered here?

Yes, we gathered here to listen and learn the Word of God.

Psalms 133 : 1 ~~ How good and pleasant it is  when God’s people live together  in unity!

Friends, we’ve to gather to listen and learn. Not only listen and learn but we have to live according to it.

James 1 : 23

Anyone who listens to the Word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror. &, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

Hebrews 10 : 25

 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing,

but encouraging one another & all the more as you see the Day approaching.

2. All listened with understandingly.

2nd. thing what we’ve to learn is gathered & listen understandingly. Not listen one ear & throw from other ear.

Nehemiah 8 : 2

So on the first day of the seventh month  Ezra the priest brought the Law  before the

assembly, which was made up of men & women & all who were able to understand.

I notice many times, some friends gather in the house of the Lord but during the sermon they sleep. Some gather physically but not mentally. They gave time to God but not heart & mind. Let’s listen & understand.

James 1 : 22 ~~ Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves.  Do what it says.

Revelation 1 : 3 (This year listen & live according to it)

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, & blessed are

those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

3. All listened attentively.

Third step we notice in the lives of those people. Those people listened attentively. It took about more than 6 ~ 7 hours. Nobody get tired or feel sleepy. They all listened word of God very attentively.

Nehemiah 8 : 3

He read it aloud from daybreak till noon as he faced the square before the Water

Gate  in the presence of the men, women & others who could understand.

And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.

Listening attentively, strengthen our faith. Let’s make promise with ourselves that we will listen attentively.

Romans 10 : 17

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, & the message is heard through the word about Christ.

4. All listened respectfully.

4th.secret what we can discover in those people. They all respect the teacher & his teaching. I mean when teacher Ezra read the Holy Bible (Torah of Moses) All the people were so quiet & stood in respect of Word of God.

Nehemiah 8 : 5

Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was

standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up.

It’s time to examine ourselves. Holy Bible do not need good wrap or cover. Holy Bible is a word of God written by His people time to time. You know Jews wash hands before hold it & put above head as well as Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs do with their holy books. How about you and me? Christians of this age!

Nehemiah 8 : 6 (Word Amen is used 70 ~ 80 times) (Word Hallelujah is used 28 times)

Ezra praised the  Lord, the great God & all the people lifted their hands & responded,

“Amen! Amen!” Then they bowed down & worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.

Friends, those Jews respect & love by deeds. They shout Amen! Amen! & bowed down. It’s time for all of us to show our love & respect by deeds not by words only. (Rev. 1:3 take to heart what is written in it)

5. All listened and repented.

5th and most important thing we seek in the scripture. All those people listened very carefully, understand God’s will for them and they all wept and repented. Friends, it’s our time to examine ourselves & repent.

Nehemiah 8 : 9

Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and teacher of the Law, and the Levites  who were instructing the people said to them all, “This day is holy to the  Lord  your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.

If we want to have fellowship of God. If we want blessings. It’s time to repent practically not verbally.

Acts 3 : 19
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be

wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,

Acts 26 : 20
First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem & in all Judea &  then to the Gentiles,

I preached that they should repent & turn to God & demonstrate their repent ance by their deeds.

Conclusion :-

Everyone of us read the Holy Bible. Holy Bible, isn’t just a book like other books. Holy Bible is book of life. Once our late Ex-senior pastor Dr. Sung Kyu Choi taught us that Holy Book is just book, when it is in book shelf but when we read and live according to it. It becomes light & life. It is navigation of our lives.

Psalms 119 : 105 ~~~ Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light  on my path.

We have to read Holy Bible with pure, soft and listening heart. God want talk to us through His words.

Friends, to say Amen & Hallelujah is not duty of pastors, preachers or evangelist. We all believers have to use oftenly ♣ Hallelujah & Amen ♣ Hallelujah mean praise the Lord & Amen mean I am agree with it.

아멘, 아멘하고 말함으로 반응합시다

솔로몬 왕에 의해 세워진 성전은 세 번 무너졌습니다. 술 관원이자 왕의 개인

비서인 느헤미야가 성벽과 성문이 불탔다는 것을 들었을 때 그는 애통했습니다.

느헤미야 1 : 3 ~ 4

그들이 내게 이르되 사로잡힘을 면하고 남아있는 자들이 그 지방 거기에서 큰 환난을 당하고

능욕을 받으며 예루살렘 성은 허물어지고 성문들은 불탔다 하는지라 내가 이 말을

듣고 앉아서 울고 수일 동안 하늘의 하나님 앞에 금식하며 기도하여.

그는 성벽과 성문 재건을 위해 울며 기도했습니다. 성벽과 성문을 재건한 후에 모든 이스라엘 지도자들이 한 곳에 모여서 우리가 여기에서 하는 것처럼 하나님을 찬양하고 경배했습니다.

1. 모두 한 곳에 모였습니다.

신자들 모두 한 곳에 모였습니다. 그 사람들은 억지로나 초대를 받아서가 아니라 자발적으로 모였습니다.

느헤미야 8 : 1

모든 백성이 일제히 수문 앞 광장에 모여 학사 에스라에게

여호와께서 이스라엘에게 명령하신 모세의 율법책을 가져오기를 청하매.

누구도 모이라고 전갈을 보내거나 부르지 않았고 모든 사람들이 스스로 모여서 학사 에스라에게 하나님 말씀을 가르쳐 달라고 요청했음을 알 수 있습니다. 왜 우리가 여기에 모였는지 아십니까?

그렇습니다. 우리는 하나님 말씀을 듣고 배우기 위해 여기에 모였습니다.

시편 133 : 1 ~~~ 보라 형제가 연합하여 동거함이 어찌 그리 선하고 아름다운고

우리는 듣고 배우기 위해 모여야 합니다. 듣고 배울 뿐 아니라 그에 따라 살아야 합니다.

야고보서 1 : 23 ~ 24

누구든지 말씀을 듣고 행하지 아니하면 그는 거울로 자기의 생긴 얼굴을 보는

사람과 같아서 제 자신을 보고 가서 그 모습이 어떠했는지를 곧 잊어버리거니와.

히브리서 10 : 25

모이기를 폐하는 어떤 사람들의 습관과 같이 하지 말고 오직 권하여 그 날이 가까움을 볼수록 더욱 그리하자.

2. 모두 이해하며 들었습니다.

우리가 배워야 할 두 번째는 모여서 이해하면서 들었다는 것입니다. 한 귀로 듣고 다른 귀로 흘려버리는 것이 아닙니다.

느헤미야 8 : 2

일곱째 달 초하루에 제사장 에스라가 율법책을 가지고 회중

앞 곧 남자나 여자나 알아들을 만한 모든 사람 앞에 이르러.

어떤 친구들은 주님의 전에 모이지만 설교하는 동안에 잠을 자는 것을 저는 여러 번 알아챘습니다. 어떤 사람들은 몸으로는 모이지만 정신은 아닙니다. 그들은 하나님께 시간을

드리지만 마음과 뜻은 아닙니다. 듣고 이해합시다.

야고보서 1 : 22

너희는 말씀을 행하는 자가 되고 듣기만 하여 자신을 속이는 자가 되지 말라

요한계시록 1 : 3 (금년에는 듣고 그대로 사십시오.)

이 예언의 말씀을 읽는 자와 듣는 자와 그 가운데 기록한 것을 지키는 자는 복이 있나니 때가 가까움이라.

3. 모두 귀를 기울여 들었습니다.

이 사람들의 삶에서 우리가 알아야 할 세 번째 단계는 귀를 기울여 들었다는 것입니다. 6-7시간 이상이 걸렸습니다. 누구도 피곤해 하거나 졸지 않았습니다. 그들은 모두 매우 주의 깊게 하나님의 말씀을 들었습니다.

느헤미야 8 : 3

수문 앞 광장에서 새벽부터 정오까지 남자나 여자나 알아들을 만한

모든 사람 앞에서 읽으매 뭇 백성이 그 율법책에 귀를 기울였는데.

주의 깊게 들음으로 우리 믿음을 강하게 하십시오. 주의 깊게 듣겠다고 우리자신과 약속합시다.

로마서 10 : 17

그러므로 믿음은 들음에서 나며 들음은 그리스도의 말씀으로 말미암았느니라.

4. 모두 공손하게 들었습니다.

이 사람들에게서 발견할 수 있는 네 번째 비밀은 그들은 모두 학사와 그의 가르침을 존중했다는

것입니다. 학사 에스라가 성경(모세의 경전)을 읽을 때 모든 사람들이 하나님 말씀을

공경함으로 매우 조용히 서 있었다는 뜻입니다.

느헤미야 8 : 5

에스라가 모든 백성 위에 서서 그들 목전에 책을 펴니 책을 펼 때에 모든 백성이 일어서니라.

우리자신을 점검할 시간입니다. 성경은 좋은 표지가 필요하지 않습니다. 성경은 때때로 하나님의 사람들에 의해 쓰여진 그분의 말씀입니다. 여러분이 아시는 대로 유대인들은 성경을 잡기 전에 손을 씻고 무슬림이나 힌두교도, 시카교도들이 그들의 경전을 가지고 하는 것처럼 머리 위로 듭니다. 여러분과 저와 이 시대의 크리스천은 어떻습니까?

느헤미야 8 : 6 (아멘이 70 - 80번 사용되었고 할렐루야는 28번 사용되었습니다)

에스라가 위대하신 하나님 여호와를 송축하매 모든 백성이 손을 들고

아멘 아멘 하고 응답하고 몸을 굽혀 얼굴을 땅에 대고 여호와께 경배하니라.

이 유대인들은 행위로 존중하고 사랑했습니다. 그들은 아멘! 아멘! 외치며 절했습니다.

우리 모두가 단지 말로가 아니라 행위로 사랑과 존중을 보일 때입니다.

요한계시록 1 : 3 ~~~~ 그 가운데 기록한 것을 지키는 자는

5. 모두 듣고 회개했습니다.

다섯 번째, 본문 말씀에서 찾을 수 있는 가장 중요한 것입니다. 모든 사람들이 매우 주의 깊게 듣고

그들을 향한 하나님의 뜻을 이해하고 모두 울며 회개했습니다. 우리자신을 점검하고 회개할 때입니다.

느헤미야 8 : 9

백성이 율법의 말씀을 듣고 다 우는지라 총독 느헤미야와 제사장겸 학사 에스라와 백성을 가르치는 레위 사람들이 모든 백성에게 이르기를 오늘은 너희 하나님 여호와의 성일이니 슬퍼하지 말며 울지 말라 하고.

하나님과 교제하고자 한다면, 축복 받고자 한다면 말로가 아니라 행동으로 회개할 때입니다.

사도행전 3 : 19

그러므로 너희가 회개하고 돌이켜 너희 죄 없이 함을 받으라

이같이 하면 새롭게 되는 날이 주 앞으로부터 이를 것이요.

사도행전 26 : 20

먼저 다메섹과 예루살렘에 있는 사람과 유대 온 땅과 이방인에게까지

회개하고 하나님께로 돌아와서 회개에 합당한 일을 하라 전하므로.

결론 :-

우리 모두 성경을 읽습니다. 성경은 다른 책과 같은 그냥 책이 아닙니다. 성경은 생명의 책입니다. 전에 원로목사님이셨던 최성규 목사님은 성경이 책장에 있으면 그냥 책이지만 우리가 읽고 그에

따라 살면 빛과 생명이 된다고 가르치셨습니다. 우리 삶의 내비게이션입니다.

성경을 순종함으로, 기대함으로, 계속해서, 대화하면서 읽고 들으십시오.

우리는 성경을 순수하고 부드럽고 경청하는 마음으로 읽어야 합니다.

하나님은 그분의 말씀을 통해 우리에게 말씀하기 원하십니다.

야고보서 1 : 22 ~~~ 너희는 말씀을 행하는 자가 되고 듣기만 하여 자신을 속이는 자가 되지 말라.

아멘, 할렐루야하고 말하는 것이 목사, 설교자, 전도사의 의무가 아닙니다. 우리 모든 신자들은 할렐루야 와 아멘을 자주 사용해야 합니다. 할렐루야는 주님을 찬양합니다, 아멘은 동의한다는 뜻입니다.
