로빈 시크(Robin Thicke)는 아메리칸-캐너디언 싱어송라이터로 배우로도 활약하고 있다. 티아이(T.I. 본명 Clifford Joseph Harris Jr.)는 랩가수 겸 싱어송라이터, 프로듀서로 그랜드 허슬 레코드 사장이기도 하다. 퍼렐(Pharrell Williams)은 뮤지션이자 패션 디자이너로 활동하고 있다.

단순한 가사와 반복적인 리듬이 흥겨운 이 곡은 마빈 게이의 “Got To Give It Up”와 70년대 사이키델릭펑크 밴드, 펑카델릭(Funkadelic)의 "Sexy Ways"을 표절했다는 시비에 휘말려 있다.

"Got To Give it Up”은 1984년 세상을 떠난 마빈 게이가 작사, 작곡한 곡이다. 비교해 보면 섹시 웨이즈는 확실히 표절이 아닌 것 같고 Got to give it up과는 곡은 다르지만 분위기와 베이스라인이 흡사하다. 어떻게 판결이 날지 그 결과 또한 궁금하다.

Blurred Lines를 '얼룩진 선'이라 번역한 글도 있고 '모호한 것들'이라고 번역한 글도 있던데 모호한 것들, 모호한 경계선이 본뜻에 가까운 것 같다. 가식과 본능의 모호한 경계랄까, 플라스틱으로 만든 인조 인간이 아니니까 가식을 버리고 인간의 본능에 충실하라는 의미로 받아 들여진다.
