WHAT DOES "REPENT" REALLY MEAN IN THE BIBLE?
Most people think "repent" means "to turn from sin"—but that’s NOT how the Bible defines it! The King James Bible defines words by how they are used in context, and when we study "repent," we see that it simply means "to change one's mind."
1️⃣ The Bible Shows That God Repents
God does not sin, yet the Bible says He repents multiple times!
✔️ Exodus 32, Verse 14 – "And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people."
✔️ Jonah 3, Verse 10 – "And God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not."
Clearly, "repent" does not mean "turn from sin," because God has no sin to turn from! It means God changed His mind about the judgment He was going to send.
2️⃣ Paul's Gospel: Repentance is Changing Your Mind About Christ!
When it comes to salvation in this dispensation of grace, repentance is about changing your mind from unbelief to belief in Christ!
✔️ Acts 20, Verse 21 – "Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ."
✔️ 2nd Timothy 2, Verses 25 and 26 – "If God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth."
Paul never says, "Repent of your sins to be saved." Instead, he teaches that salvation comes by FAITH ALONE in the finished work of Christ (1st Corinthians 15, Verses 1 through 4).
3️⃣ What Repentance is NOT
🚫 Repentance is not turning from sin to be saved.
🚫 Repentance is not an emotional feeling or regret.
🚫 Repentance is not a requirement in addition to faith.
✅ Repentance is simply a change of mind—and in salvation, it's the change from unbelief to belief in Christ’s gospel.
Final Truth: Salvation is By Faith ALONE
✔️ Ephesians 2, Verses 8 and 9 – "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
✔️ Romans 4, Verses 4 and 5 – "Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."
To be saved, you don’t "repent of sin"—you believe Paul's gospel of Christ (1st Corinthians 15, Verses 1 through 4). THAT is the rightly divided truth of "repentance" in the Bible. 🔥💡
