구세군대한본영은 100주년 기념사업의 일환으로 한국구세군 최초의 선교사관인 허가두 사관의 묘지를 아름답게 정비하고 그 업적을 기념하는 공적비를 건립하였습니다. 영국 런던 외곽에 위치한 묘지는 소홀한 관리와 긴 세우러의 흔적으로 많이 훼손된 상태였습니다. 이에 한국군국에서는 현재 영국에서 사역 중인 김병 윤사관을 통해 묘지 보수공사와 공적비 건립사업을 시작하였습니다. 먼저 지반 침하로 비뚤어진 묘비를 콘크리트로 기초하여 바르게 세웠고 낡아 희미해진 글자를 다시 각인하였으며, 묘봉에 풀이 나지 않도록 옥석을 깔았습니다. 그리고 묘비 앞에 한국구세군 100주년을 맞이하여 한국구세군 전체 병사의 이름으로 허가두 사관님의 노고와 공적들을 잊지 않고 기억하며 감사한다는 공적비를 세웠습니다. 이 일은 한국전체 사관과 병사들에게 의미 있는 일이고 이를 지켜보는 세계 구세군인들에게도 귀감이 될 것입니다. 공적비 내용은 아래와 같이 한/영으로 제작하였습니다.


한국구세군 개적 선교사관 부장 허가두

1908년 10월 1일 한국에 첫 발을 내딛은 Commissioner Robert Hoggard(1861-1935. 부장 허가두)는 진취적 구령정신으로, 고난 의 시기를 살아가는 한국인들에게 그리스도의 복음을 전했다. 그 의 주된 활동은 예배와 교육 그리고 사회봉사였다. 사람이 모인 곳이면 어디서든 예배를 드려 믿음을 심어주었고 남녀노소를 무 론하고 성경을 가르치는 일에 열중하여 소망을 갖게 하였으며 가 난하고 병든 자들을 찾아가서 사랑으로 돌봐주었다.

그의 손에서 휘날리던 한국 구세군 최초의 혈화기는 한국 땅 이곳, 저곳으 로 퍼져 그의 사령관 재임기간(1908-1916) 동안 사관 87명, 병 사 1,201명, 구세신문 3,500부, 영문 78개소 개척 등 놀라운 발 전을 이루었으며, 현재 한국구세군 선교 100주년이라는 역사적 순간의초석이 되었다.

이에 모든 한국 구세군인들은 Robert Hoggard 부장의 헌신적 생 애와 열정을 기리며 그의 구령 정신을 계승하고자 이곳에 기념 묘석을 세운다.

With Marching Orders from General William Booth in hand, the then Colonel Robert Hoggard arrived on the Korean peninsula on 1st October 1908 to commence The Salvation Army. Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Korean people, he conducted worship meetings, taught Biblical truths and was involved in community service to help those in need. Witnessing to the young and to the old, to men and women, to boys and girls, visiting the poor and the sick, he offered one and all hope in the Lord Jesus Christ.

He waved the Blood and Fire Flag throughout the land of Korea as Territorial Commander of The Salvation Army from 1908 to 1916, by which time some 87 officers had been trained; 1,201 Salvationists swom-in; 3,500 copies of The War Cry had been publiched; and 78 Corps opened. His achievements were remarkable and wonderful development continued so that today the centenary of The Salvation Army Korea Territory is celebrated.

This Centennial Celebration Stone is erected in praise and glory to God for the devoted life of Commissioner Robert Hoggard. May all Savationists of the Korea Territory inherit his passion for souls adn hear for people.
