Korea, Japan in Currency Dispute
An official at the Finance Ministry called his counterpart in Tokyo yesterday to complain about criticism by Japan's finance minister of South Korea's foreign exchange policy. In a budget committee meeting on Wednesday, Japanese Prime Minster Naoto Kan was asked by a lawmaker about Korea’s repeated interventions to stem the rise of the won. Kan responded that "it is against the mutual cooperation of the G20” and urged Korea and China to play by the book. The same day Japanese Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda said, “As chair of the G20, Korea's role will be seriously questioned." The dispute follows criticism by the U.S. and EU of China’s foreign exchange policy and the prospect that Washington will soon crank up the dollar printing presses to try to help the U.S. economy. The issue of currency rates is expected to take center stage at a meeting of G-20 finance ministers in Gyeongju next week.

Microsoft Announces Partnership With Facebook
Microsoft yesterday announced a partnership with Facebook that will see Microsoft's Bing search engine integrated into the world's most popular social network. The partnership is an effort by Microsoft to nibble away at search engine giant Google’s seemingly dominant market share. One of the key new features enables users to narrow down people search results to only those within their social network. Additionally, Bing will return search result based on pages previously ‘Liked’ by friends. The announcement Wednesday is the latest in a string of high profile stories about Facebook. Recently the unveiling of long anticipated features to the social networking platform was overshadowed by ‘The Social Network’, a box-office movie chronicling the rise of Facebook and its founder Mark Zuckerberg.
