A Duty of Jury/Juror(배심원의 의무)
My husband was returning from the mailbox check-up in the front
yard and murmuring(궁시렁 궁시렁-한국말이 느낌이 훨 좋아요) as he
walked in the house last evening.
I asked him, 'what's wrong?'
'Look what I got!'
He had a letter in his hand from a district court.
It starts like this:
Dear juror,
I am writing to notify you that you have been selected to serve
on a jury in the United States District Court for the ..............
He had been a juror before, and it was a civil case.
Being the juror, in this case, is a federal case.
My husband says he'll get paid about $25 a day, but he wants rather
pays back to them not to go if he can...ㅋㅋ
But he also knows he is obligated to the country as a citizen, and I know
he'll do it perfectly well as always.
Happy 추석 everybody!!!
첫댓글 I’ve no idea of how it would disturb you and how long it takes your time.
Nevertheless, a juror must be much better than a defendant…^&^
In the meantime, I've learned that the fine fee over $1,000 will be put on
unless the appointees would show up with any good excuses, to my surprise,
comparing with $25 of daily pay for the attendance.
He has retired and stays home.
He has to go because he doesn't have any excuse to make.
The only thing is he doesn't like to get involved in other people's business.
I am just wondering what kind of criminals he'll be facing in the court.
I do scare to face any criminals.
I think it's a great honor to be on the jury.
No matter how honorable he is , the service charge is too cheap.
Still, it's something to celebrate.
Don't worry. He will do very well.
Have a good Chuseok holiday!! ^&^
Serving on the jury is not for the money.
It's just public service to bring justice for a victim and the future public safety.
Enjoy your remaining holiday.
