  Verse of the Day

For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

예언은 언제든지 사람의 뜻에서 나온 것이 아니라, 사람들이 성령에 이끌려서 하나님께로부터 오는 말씀을 받아서 한 것입니다.

  Thoughts on Today's Verse

Where did Scripture come from? What is the basis of our faith in the Bible and the Gospel? Peter wants us to realize that the prophets of ancient times didn't bake up their own private recipes for their prophecies. Instead, they could only move and

respond to what God was doing in them, not what they themselves wanted to do or say. They were human, but their

message was God's word because the Holy Spirit moved them to speak and guided their words. This makes what we

have in Scripture from the prophets more than precious: we are given the very words of God! (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16-17)

말씀은 어디서부터 온 걸까요? 우리가 성서와 복음을 믿는 믿음의 근거는 무엇일까요? 베드로가 강조한 것은, 고대의 예언자들이 자기들 입맛에 맞게 요리하듯 마음껏 예언을 한 것이 아니라는 점입니다. 대신에, 그들 안에서 일하시는 하나님께서 하라는 대로 움직이거나 반응할 수 밖에 없었던 것이며, 그들 자신의 마음대로 행하거나 말했던 것이 아니었습니다. 그들은 인간이었지만, 그들의 메시지는 하나님의 말씀이었으며 이는 성령께서 그들을 움직여서 말하게 하시고 말씀을 이끄셨기 때문입니다. 선지자들의 예언을 담은 성경 말씀이 그래서 우리에게 참으로 소중한 것입니다; 우리들은 하나님의 말씀 그대로를 갖고 있는 것입니다! The abbreviation advises readers to consult other material, usually for the purpose of drawing a contrast.

  * What's the difference between the Gospel and the Bible?  

First, the Bible is the entire collection of Jewish scripture (known by Christians as the "Old Testament") and Christian scripture (which also includes the "New Testament") as recognized by modern Christian groups. Most Christian groups recognize 66 "books" (or individual pieces of literature) as their Bible. Some Christian groups add additional "books". See the Wikipedia entry for Bible for a more in-depth look of what is contained within the Bible, and how various groups have different definitions. Now, moving on to the term "Gospel." The term "Gospel" has two meanings within Christianity. One of the books of the Bible which tells the story of Jesus' life. The four gospels are Gospels of (or according to) Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. In this sense, the term "Gospel" serves to designate these four books (and some groups include additional gospels) as distinct from the other types of books contained in the Bible. In this sense, the Gospels (plural) are part of the Bible. "The Gospel" also means simply "The Good News." So when someone says "Jesus preached the Gospel," they don't mean "Jesus told the story of his life," but they mean "Jesus preached the Good News." That "Good News" is essentially that God forgives sins. It can also be considered the entire story of the Bible, including the details of man's rebellion against God, and God's desire and attempt to redeem man.

  My Prayer

  Almighty God, thank you for inspiring ordinary people to give us your extraordinary message in common, everyday

language. Thank you for delivering that essential message to us in the Bible and preserving it through times of persecution, hardship, and opposition. Please use those same Scriptures to ignite a whole new revival in my heart and throughout our

land. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

  전능하신 하나님, 보통 사람들에게 영감을 주셔서 주님의 비범한 메시지를 우리들의 일상 언어로 내려 주셨으니 감사드립니다. 성경의 필수적인 메시지를 우리에게 공급해 주셔서 감사드리고, 종교적 핍박과 역경과 항쟁의 시기를 거치면서도 보존해 주셨으니 감사드립니다. 그런 말씀을 사용하셔서 제 마음과 이 땅 전체에 새로운 부흥의 불을 붙여 주시옵소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
