1. 그러므로 예수님께서 요한보다 더 많이 제자를 삼고 침례를 주셨다는 말을 바리새인들이 들은 줄을 [주]께서 아시고

When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,

2. (그러나 예수님께서 친히 침례를 주지 아니하고 그분의 제자들이 주었더라.)

Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,

3. 유대를 떠나 다시 갈릴리로 가실 때에

He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.

4. 반드시 사마리아를 통과해야 하겠으므로

And he must needs go through Samaria.

5. 그때에 수가라 하는 사마리아의 도시에 이르셨는데 이곳은 야곱이 자기 아들 요셉에게 준 땅에 가깝더라.

Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

6. 이제 거기에 야곱의 우물이 있더라. 그런즉 예수님께서 여행에 지치셨으므로 우물에 그대로 걸터앉으시니 때가 여섯 시쯤 되었더라.

Now Jacobs well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with [his] journey, sat thus on the well: [and] it was about the sixth hour.

7. 한 사마리아 여자가 물 길으러 오매 예수님께서 그녀에게, 마실 물을 내게 달라, 하시니

There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

8. (이는 그분의 제자들이 먹을 것을 사러 그 도시로 갔기 때문이더라.)

his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.

9. 그때에 사마리아 여자가 그분께 이르되, 당신은 유대인이면서 어찌하여 사마리아 여자인 내게 마실 물을 달라고 하시나이까? 하니 이는 유대인이 사마리아 사람과 상종하지 아니하기 때문이라.

Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

10. 예수님께서 그녀에게 대답하여 이르시되, 네가 만일 [하나님]의 선물을 알고 또 네게, 마실 물을 내게 달라, 하는 이가 누구인 줄 알았더라면 그에게 구하였을 것이요, 그가 네게 생수를 주었으리라, 하시니

Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

11. 여자가 그분께 이르되, 선생님이여, 선생님께는 물 길을 그릇도 없고 이 우물은 깊은데 선생님이 어디에서 그 생수를 얻겠나이까?

The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

12. 우리 조상 야곱이 이 우물을 우리에게 주었고 또 여기서 그와 그의 아이들과 가축들이 마셨는데 선생님이 야곱보다 더 크시니이까? 하매

Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

13. 예수님께서 그녀에게 대답하여 이르시되, 누구든지 이 물을 마시는 자는 다시 목마르려니와

Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14. 누구든지 내가 줄 물을 마시는 자는 결코 목마르지 아니하리니 내가 줄 물은 그 사람 속에서 솟아나는 우물이 되어 영존하는 생명에 이르게 하리라, 하시니라.

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

15. 여자가 그분께 이르되, 선생님이여, 이 물을 내게 주사 내가 목마르지 않게 하시고 또 여기로 물 길으러 오지도 않게 하옵소서, 하매

The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

16. 예수님께서 그녀에게 이르시되, 가서 네 남편을 부르고 여기로 오라, 하시니

Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

17. 여자가 응답하여 이르되, 나는 남편이 없나이다, 하매 예수님께서 그녀에게 이르시되, 네가, 나는 남편이 없나이다, 하고 잘 말하였도다.

The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

18. 네게 남편 다섯이 있었고 지금 네게 있는 자도 네 남편이 아니니 그 점에서 네 말이 참되도다, 하시니라.

For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

19. 여자가 그분께 이르되, 선생님이여, 내가 보니 선생님은 대언자로소이다.

The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

20. 우리 조상들은 이 산에서 경배하였는데 당신들은 이르기를, 사람들이 마땅히 경배해야 할 곳이 예루살렘에 있다, 하나이다, 하매

Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

21. 예수님께서 그녀에게 이르시되, 여자여, 내 말을 믿으라. 너희가 이 산도 아니고 예루살렘도 아닌 곳에서 [아버지]께 경배할 때가 이르느니라.

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22. 너희는 너희가 알지 못하는 것에게 경배하고 우리는 우리가 경배하는 것을 아노니 이는 구원이 유대인에게서 나기 때문이라.

Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

23. 그러나 참되게 경배하는 자들이 영과 진리로 [아버지]께 경배할 때가 오나니 곧 지금이라. 이는 [아버지]께서 자기에게 그렇게 경배하는 자들을 찾으시기 때문이니라.

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24. [하나님]은 [영]이시니 그분께 경배하는 자들이 반드시 영과 진리로 그분께 경배할지니라, 하시니라.

God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.

25. 여자가 그분께 이르되, 메시아 곧 그리스도라 하는 분이 오실 줄을 내가 아노니 그분께서 오시면 모든 것을 우리에게 말씀하시리이다, 하매

The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

26. 예수님께서 그녀에게 이르시되, 네게 말하고 있는 내가 그니라, 하시니라.

Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am [he].

27. 이때에 그분의 제자들이 와서 그분께서 그 여자와 말씀하시는 것을 보고 이상히 여겼으나 아무도, 무엇을 구하시나이까? 어찌하여 그녀에게 말씀하시나이까? 하고 말하지 아니하더라.

And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

28. 여자가 자기의 물 항아리를 버려두고 자기 길로 가서 도시로 들어가 사람들에게 말하되,

The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

29. 와서 내가 행한 모든 일을 내게 말한 사람을 보라. 이분은 그리스도가 아니냐? 하니

Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

30. 이에 그들이 도시에서 나와 그분께로 오더라.

Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

31. 그 사이에 그분의 제자들이 그분께 간청하여 이르되, 선생님이여, 잡수소서, 하거늘

In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.

32. 그분께서 그들에게 이르시되, 내게는 너희가 알지 못하는 먹을 양식이 있느니라, 하시니

But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

33. 그러므로 제자들이 서로 이르되, 누가 그분께 잡수실 것을 가져다 드렸는가? 하매

Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him [ought] to eat?

34. 예수님께서 그들에게 이르시되, 내 양식은 나를 보내신 분의 뜻을 행하고 그분의 일을 끝마치는 것이니라.

Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

35. 너희가 말하기를, 아직 넉 달이 남아 있고 그 뒤에 수확할 때가 이른다, 하지 아니하느냐? 보라, 내가 너희에게 이르노니, 너희 눈을 들어 밭들을 보라. 그것들이 이미 희게 되어 수확하게 되었도다.

Say not ye, There are yet four months, and [then] cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

36. 거두는 자가 삯을 받고 영원한 생명에 이르는 열매를 모으나니 이것은 뿌리는 자와 거두는 자가 다 함께 기뻐하려 함이라.

And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

37. 이 점에서, 한 사람이 심고 다른 사람이 거둔다, 하는 그 말이 참되도다.

And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

38. 내가 너희를 보내어 너희가 수고하지 않은 것을 거두게 하였나니 다른 사람들은 수고하였고 너희는 그들의 수고에 참여하였느니라, 하시니라.

I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

39. 여자의 말이, 내가 행한 모든 일을 그분께서 내게 말하였다, 하고 증언하므로 그 도시의 많은 사마리아 사람들이 그분을 믿더라.

And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

40. 이에 사마리아 사람들이 그분께 와서 그분께 간청하여 그분께서 자기들과 함께 머무를 것을 구하니 그분께서 거기에 이틀을 머무르시매

So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

41. 그분의 말씀으로 인해 더욱 많은 사람이 믿고

And many more believed because of his own word;

42. 그 여자에게 이르되, 이제 우리가 믿는 것은 네 말 때문이 아니니 이는 우리가 직접 그분의 말을 들었고 이분께서 참으로 세상의 [구원자] 그리스도이신 줄 알기 때문이라, 하였더라.

And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard [him] ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

43. 이제 이틀 뒤에 그분께서 거기를 떠나 갈릴리로 들어가시니

Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

44. 이는 예수님께서 친히 증언하시기를, 대언자가 자기 고향에서는 아무 존경도 받지 못하느니라, 하셨기 때문이라.

For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

45. 그때에 그분께서 갈릴리에 이르시매 갈릴리 사람들이 그분을 받아들이니 이는 그들도 명절에 갔다가 그분께서 명절에 예루살렘에서 하신 모든 일을 보았기 때문이더라.

Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

46. 이처럼 예수님께서 다시 갈릴리 가나에 오셨는데 이곳은 그분께서 물을 포도즙으로 만드신 곳이더라. 거기에 어떤 귀족이 있었는데 그의 아들이 가버나움에서 병들었더라.

So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. 

47. 그가 예수님께서 유대로부터 갈릴리로 오셨다는 것을 듣고 그분께 가서 그분께 간청하여 그분께서 내려와 자기 아들의 병을 고쳐 줄 것을 구하니 이는 그가 거의 죽게 되었기 때문이라.

When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.

48. 그때에 예수님께서 그에게 이르시되, 너희는 표적들과 이적들을 보지 않으면 도무지 믿으려 하지 아니하는도다, 하매

Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

49. 그 귀족이 그분께 이르되, 선생님이여, 내 아이가 죽기 전에 내려오소서, 하니

The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

50. 예수님께서 그에게 이르시되, 네 길로 가라. 네 아들이 살아 있다, 하시매 그 사람이 예수님께서 자기에게 하신 말씀을 믿고 가더라.

Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.

51. 이제 그가 내려갈 때에 그의 종들이 그를 만나 그에게 고하여 이르기를, 당신의 아들이 살아 있나이다, 하거늘

And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told [him], saying, Thy son liveth.

52. 그때에 그가 아들이 낫기 시작한 시각을 그들에게 물은즉 그들이 그에게 말하되, 어제 일곱 시에 열병이 그에게서 떠났나이다, 하매

Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

53. 이에 그의 아버지가 그때가 바로 예수님께서 자기에게, 네 아들이 살아 있다, 하고 말씀하신 그 시각인 줄 알고 그와 그의 온 집안이 믿으니라.

So the father knew that [it was] at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

54. 이것은 또한 예수님께서 유대에서 갈릴리로 오신 뒤에 행하신 두 번째 기적이니라.

This [is] again the second miracle [that] Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
