[NOTICE]
Since I'm trying to contain the number of participants within no more than 10
due to the nature of this study group and limited seatings,
current members are fixed as below.
It means that even though you've had an interview a long time ago and joined a few times
it doesn't automatically give you the green light to participate.
If you happen to be absent more than a month in a row,
please give me a notice and I won't count you out
otherwise I would assume you're not willing to attend anymore
so unoccupied seat will be passed to a new commer.
If you wish to attend after a long-time absence, please contact me first. :)
CURRENT MEMBERS are...
Tia, Jay, Simon, Sun, (James), Grace, (Sanghwa), (Danny), (Amelia),

Minutes of the meeting on 3/19
We had 8 English talkaholics on last Saturday, me, Jay, Ben, Grace, Yena, Jim, Sun and a new comer, Chris.
We spent some time introducing and catching up each other and broke into 2 groups for disucussions. In my group with Jay, Jim and Sun, we started with my topic. A teacher forced his male students to fll a paper cup with their urine in front of a teacher to detect whether they had smoked and a student filed a complaint claiming a violation of hunman rights. We talked about how far we could understand as a discipline measure and related stories of our own. Jay brought an issue of classes in Chinese language at university to allure chinese-national students. I didn't see any harm at first but could understand how it would affect negatively in the long run thanks to our brilliant members. Jim asked us a qustion how far AI could go and whether it could ecxel human being in the field of translation in the future and we shared interesting ideas on that.
The debate topic was if it is ok to make a film depicting minority groups in a negative aspect.
Jay, Ben, Sun, Grace were together supporting artistic freedom. They argued that it is just another view which offers us to see in a different angle and if somebody thinks it is somehow wrong in a certain way, they also have chances to criticize freely and that's how democracy works. But I, Yena, Jim, and Chris on the opposing side countered that when there are already deep rooted bigotry against certain minorities, making those films only spreads those hatrey even farther and it often results in disastrous consquneces. For example, there are many cases that hate speech are led to hate crimes. We all agreed that freedom of speech is core value in democratic society but a different approach on this issue, I guess.
It was very delightful to listen various ideas as always!
Bun, Sun, Chris and I had a nice lunch together with ceaseless chats and laughs.
Thank you guys for coming and hope to see everyone again on this coming Saturday!!
