"氣(vital energy) is just like electricity (in contemporary sense). "
That`s what I was told from the tourist I was with at 경복궁.
I was talking about the propitious location of 경복궁 as a converging spot of 'vital energy (氣) provided by two mountains, Mt. 백악 and Mt. 인왕.
He works for KEPCO(한국전력).
He was there with his two Aussie colleagues.
Actually, it was such an unusual appraoch that I was a little embarassed.
However, I could click with him without missing a beat.
"Exactly, you can say that again."
I guessed his remark was just right as an engineer working for electricity company.
As for me(culture commentator), it left something to be desired, though.
In front of 향원정, I asked him to explain the early adoption of light bulb by King 고종.
His comments were not so logical but full of exact numbers and professional data.
I added that the generator had to release hot water to the pond and that made the fish float with belly up.
That was regarded as an ominous sign that the operation of the generator had to be stopped.
They seemed to be so much amused with the new facts and figures they could get through the tour.
I also gained so much strength through their compliments lavished on my passionate guiding.
On my way back, I said to myself,' This is another happy day as 궁궐지킴이.'
