첫댓글 Wow,, I don't know what to say. This is very interesting, and funny, then again surprising. I've never realized English has this weakness. I am going to definitely use this question when I become a teacher. Thank you for bring up this question, Jinseung.

Oh, by the way, folks, I think my answer was the closest one. ^_^

Thank you for your comment, Robin. That's certainly the real meaning of the sentence. I just added your comment up there.

To add some more zest to this, I have an additioal pop quiz for you all. How would you translate "넌 (형제중) 몇번째니?" in English? Have fun and do have a beautiful weekend.

    nice great~

That's a great question. Now, here is a text I got from BE, with the string: how+many+ brothers+and+sisters: How many brothers and sisters have you got? I've got Four brothers. Now how did you cope with this? Erm well Are you the youngest? No. I'm the second oldest.

  • 작성자 04.02.15 09:16

So the answer to your question is: You can say, "Are you the youngest?" or "Are you the oldest?" Also, you could say, "How many brothers and sisters (do you have) before you?"

  • 04.02.15 05:15

= How many siblings do you have?

  • 04.02.15 14:39

what about this? were you born first or second?

  • 작성자 04.02.16 00:06

All these expressions will work, in the right contexts.

  • 04.02.16 16:35

I, too, totally agree that all the expressions above will do well in getting the meaning through. But to make the translation a little more direct, how about 'Where do you come in your family?'

  • 작성자 04.02.17 12:42

That would also depend on the context, wouldn't it? ^*^

  • 04.02.17 15:28

~or would it? This would be a question to which I am not sure what the answer could be. If my memory serves me right, this is an expression I've heard only a few times in my whole life time always with the same meaning so I guess I have to live and learn.

I'm so exciting! so if I ordered some food, and they gave me number for my turn. But i couldn't know how many people waiting. At that time, I can ask like that How many orders so far? Is it correct?
