In the lecture, the lecturer argues thaat the reading passage is wrong. Scholars thought out possible reasons how the old kingdom ultimately collapsed but their reasons had inherited flaws.
First of all, It is highly unlikely that the provincial governors were greedy so they revolted against the empire. The governors must've gotten rewards for being loyal to the king. So they had no reason to revolt against the empire. Also, the pharaoh had large armies, there would've been killed if they did anyting violent and greedy to the pharaoh.
Second of all, the historical documents records are misinterpreted. There was no climate change toward the end of the third millennium BC.
Lastly, if the Old Kingdom fell because of the fighting between brothers for the throne, why hadn't the Old Kingdom fall earlier? Pepi ∥ wasn't the only one who had a long reign and it was a common thing for the children of the pharaoh to fight eachother.
