2 Peter 2 Scripture Reading
Meditation on 2 Peter 2
1. History bears eloquent testimony to the truth of what Peter says here concerning the danger of teachers of false religion. Yet in this age of so-called tolerance, Christians are often afraid to exercise discernment and to speak against heresy. Our silence is wrong, because all error corrupts, and errors against the foundations of the faith destroy souls forever. What damnable heresies presently endanger the Christian church? Pray for boldness for yourself and preachers to speak against them for the sake of precious souls.
2. The Old Testament proves repeatedly that God will destroy the wicked, especially those who lead others into wickedness like the false prophets. In their arrogance and boasting, they may appear successful and happy. However, unregenerate preachers are walking on a tightrope, and if they do not repent and find salvation, they will plunge at last in the fire of hell. We must remind ourselves of the danger into which we put ourselves if we listen to them. Regardless of the popularity of a preacher or teacher, do not give him a voice in your life, family, or church unless he speaks the truth of the Word of God and lives that truth with integrity.
