패트리샤 닐

영화 <허드>로 아카데미 여우주연상을 받은 미국 원로배우 패트리샤 닐이 2010.8.8(현지시간) 폐암으로 숨을 거뒀다. 향년 84세. 고인은 1949년 <존은 메리를 사랑해>로 영화계에 데뷔한 뒤 63년 <허드>에서 매력적인 가정부 역할을 맡으며 오스카상을 거머쥐었다.

그러나 39세의 나이에 뇌졸중으로 쓰러져 걷는 법과 말하는 법을 다시 배워야 했다. 고된 재활훈련 끝에 영화계에 복귀한 닐은 자신이 자란 녹스빌에 재활센터를 설립해 뇌손상으로 거동이 불편한 이들의 재활을 후원해왔다.

Actress Beverly Powers appeared in a variety of films over the course of her Hollywood career.


Powers started off her acting career mostly in film roles, appearing in the Audrey Hepburn dramatic adaptation "Breakfast At Tiffany's" (1961),
the Elvis Presley adventure "Kissin' Cousins" (1964)
and the Vincent Price horror feature "The Comedy of Terrors" (1964).

She worked in television in her early acting career as well, including parts on "The Jack Benny Program" (CBS, 1950-1965) and "The Red Skelton Show" (1951-1971).

Her film career continued throughout the sixties in productions like "I'll Take Sweden" (1965) with Bob Hope, the biopic "Young Dillinger" (1965) with Nick Adams and "The Last Challenge" (1967) with Glenn Ford. She also appeared in the dramedy "Angel in My Pocket" (1968) with Andy Griffith and the horror movie "Brides of Blood" (1968) with John Ashley. Toward the end of her career, she continued to act in "Speedway" (1968), the Jim Brown thriller "The Split" (1968) and the Clint Walker crime picture "More Dead Than Alive" (1969). She also appeared in "Like a Crow on a June Bug" (1974). Powers more recently worked on "Two Friends" (1996).
