교수님, 항상 감사합니다.^^
12. (7) is ungrammatical sentence. Even though the passive verb 'believe' can take a non-finite clause complement, it
cannot allow the NP 'Bill' to immediately follow it.
13. (2b) is ungrammatical sentence. The predicate 'unexpect' is adjectival passive so that an NP should originate in the
subject position, but in (2b) the subject position was filled with expletive 'there' which has no thematic role.
14. (2a) is grammatical. Expletive 'there' can be placed in the subject position in a clause, so it can occur in the subject
position of the tag question.
15. Expletive 'there' can only occur in the subject position in a clause, but in (6) the expletive 'there' was placed in the object
position. The predicate 'tell' selects a rational entity as its argument of its object, but in (7) the object 'the tree' is not a
rational being.
16. (3b) and (3d) are ungrammatical. Both senteces include a three-place predicate of 'persuade' and 'order' In (3b), the
following position of the predicate 'persuade' is object posion, but the idiom chunk 'the shit' which should be placed in the
subject position replaced the position. In (3d), the predicate 'order' assigns a thematic role to the following argument, but
expletive 'there', without a thematic role, was placed.
첫댓글 #12. ungrammatical sentence -> an ungrammatical sentence
#14. Expletive는 주어자리에 위치합니다. 따라서 tag question에서도 won’t 이후 자리는 subject position입니다. (2b) 문장이 비문입니다. Here는 도치된 구문이므로 주어자리에 있다고 볼수 없기때문입니다.
#15. 답안 좋습니다. 다만 문제에서 출제자가 반드시 답안에서 보고 싶어하는 표현은 the following NP of the verb ‘told’ is its object. 일겁니다. 이 부분을 먼저 언급해 주시고 그 이유에 대해 기술하면 더 좋을 것 같습니다.
#16. a three-place predicate of 'persuade' and 'order' -> three-place predicates: ‘persuade’ and ‘order’
object posion -> its object position
, … position replaced the position -> … occurred in the object position
But expletive 'there', without a thematic role, was placed.-> (d)문장에서 there의 위치도 언급해 주세요. -> but expletive ‘there’ cannot get a thematic role from ‘ordered’ and occur in the object position.
