태국 새해 송크란 물 축제 풍경

매년 4월에 태국 전역에서 태국 전통 새해 축제인 송크란을 기념한다. 주말 동안 진행되는 물 축제 동안 관광객과 지역주민들은 거리에 모여 다양한 물싸움에 참여한다. 참여자들은 죄와 불운을 씻어내길 바라며, 물을 뿌리는 것은 존경과 축복의 표시이다.

Every April, people across Thailand celebrate Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year festival. During the weekend-long water festival, tourists and locals gather in the streets to take part in wide-ranging water fights. The splashing of water is a sign of respect and well-wishing, as revelers hope to wash away sins and bad luck.

🎈🐘💦태국의 설날은 송크란 축제라고도 불리며, 송크란 스플렌더스는 태국의 설날 국경일이다. 송크란은 매년 4월 13일이지만, 연휴 기간은 4월 14일부터 15일까지이다. 2018년 태국 내각은 시민들이 연휴 동안 집으로 여행할 수 있도록 전국적으로 축제를 4월 9일부터 16일까지 7일간으로 연장했다. 2019년에는 4월 13일이 토요일에 해당하여 4월 9일부터 16일까지 연휴를 지냈다. 2024년에는 송크란이 4월 1일부터 21일까지 거의 한 달 동안 연장되어 전통적인 3일 형식에서 벗어났다. 그리고 동남아시아와 남아시아의 많은 달력의 새해는 상좌부 불교 달력을 따르며, 타밀 푸탄두, 비슈, 비후, 포헬라 보이샤크, 파나 상크란티, 바이사키와 같은 힌두 달력의 새해와도 일치한다. 새해는 중국(윈난성의 다이족), 인도, 라오스, 캄보디아, 미얀마, 네팔, 스리랑카 등 남아시아 여러 지역의 새해 축하행사와 거의 같은 시기에 거행된다. 태국에서는 현재 공식적으로 새해를 1월 1일로 기념한다. 송크란은 1888년까지 공식적인 새해였으나, 이후 4월 1일로 고정되었다. 1940년에는 이 날짜가 1월 1일로 변경되었다. 태국의 전통적인 새해 송크란은 국경일로 지정되었다. 송크란 축제는 정화 의식으로 치러지는 공개 물싸움으로 유명하며, 이는 태국인과 외국인 모두에게 큰 인기를 끌었다.
