Because a vision softly creeping

살며시 다가온 어떤 환상이

Left its seeds while I was sleeping

내가 잠든 사이에 씨앗을 남겼지

And the vision that was planted in my brain

그리고 내 머릿속에 심어진 그 환상은

Still remains

여전히 남았어

Within the sound of silence

고요한 소리 속에

​In restless dreams I walked alone

불안한 꿈 속에서 혼자 걸었네

Narrow streets of cobblestone

좁은 자갈길을 따라

'Neath the halo of a street lamp

가로등 아래의 빛이 비치고

I turned my collar to the cold and damp

차가운 바람을 막으려 옷깃을 세웠지

​When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light

그때 네온 빛이 내 눈을 찌르고

That split the night

그 빛은 밤을 가르며

And touched the sound of silence

고요한 소리를 건드렸어

​And in the naked light I saw

그 희미한 빛 속에서

Ten thousand people, maybe more

수많은 사람들을 보았지

​People talking without speaking

사람들은 말 없이 이야기하고

People hearing without listening

사람들은 듣지 않고 들으며

People writing songs that voices never share

사람들은 목소리 없는 노래를 썼어

Disturb the sound of silence

고요한 소리를 깨뜨리지 않았어

​"Fools" said I, "You do not know

나는 말했지, "바보들이여, 너희는 모르는구나

Silence like a cancer grows

침묵은 암처럼 커져 간다는 걸

내 말을 들어라, 너희에게 가르치려 하니

Take my arms that I might reach you"

But my words like silent raindrops fell

하지만 내 말은 고요한 빗방울처럼 떨어져

And the people bowed and prayed

사람들은 고개를 숙이고 기도했어

To the neon god they made

그들이 만든 네온 신에게

And the sign flashed out its warning

그리고 그 표지는 경고를 발하며

In the words that it was forming
