Title: Let us prepare for the second coming of the Lord.
Bible: Matthew 24:32-44
As you know from the news, wars are currently taking place all over the world, and many people are worried about the end of the Earth due to nuclear weapons.
And people feel that the end of the Earth is closer than ever due to environmental disasters caused by climate change, earthquakes, famine, and rising sea levels.
Additionally, numerous Christian heresies have emerged all over the world and are trying to deceive Christians into falling into heresy.
When we hear all kinds of news from around the world, we feel that the second coming of Jesus is near.
So today, I would like to use this as an opportunity to prepare for the second coming of the Lord by specifically preaching about the second coming of Jesus.
How do we know that the Lord's return is near now?
One is the prophecy of the Bible and the other is the events taking place today.
This is because the events of the Bible and today's events are exactly the same.
Let’s take a look at what happens before the second coming of Jesus as prophesied in the Bible.
1. It is said that people come and go faster and knowledge increases.
In Daniel 12:4, it says that many will go from place to place to increase knowledge.
Until 150 years ago, the fastest means of transportation for people were horses and ships.
They also made boats with sails and oars.
So the speed of going and coming back was very slow.
But what about today?
By plane, what used to take years or months to travel can now be done in a day.
It only takes less than 15 hours to travel from Malaysia to the United States.
And what's even faster is that if you go up to space on a spaceship, it doesn't take long to circle the Earth once.
The Bible testifies that this rapid movement of people is a sign that the world is coming to an end.
And today is called the era of the information revolution.
With the development of computers and the Internet, the world is said to be living in an era of information overload.
In the past, knowledge was stored in stones, leather, or bamboo.
As a result, the size of the storage media was enormous and it was not possible to store a lot of knowledge.
However, with the development of science and technology, computers, and small storage media, we have entered an era in which enormous amounts of information can be stored and used.
We see that an enormous amount of knowledge is being stored and distributed through libraries and computer storage media.
Looking at these facts, we realize that the return of Jesus is drawing near.
2. Famines and earthquakes are occurring everywhere.
Matthew 24:7 says there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
⑴ Earthquake - Currently, countless people have died due to earthquakes around the world.
Also, an earthquake occurred under the seabed in Indonesia and a tsunami occurred, displacing an enormous number of people from Indonesia, Thailand, and India.
They died in places such as Tamil Nadu, India, Sri Lanka, and Australia because of tsunami.
There were earthquakes in Pakistan and Afghanistan a few years ago, killing a huge number of people.
On March 11, 2011, an unprecedentedly powerful earthquake and tsunami in Japan killed numerous people.
And we can see that in the new year of this year, there was a very strong earthquake again in Japan, causing great damage.
Although Japan is a country where earthquakes occur frequently and is always well prepared for earthquakes, so many people died.
⑵ Famine
What about famine?
In North Africa, the Sahara Desert continues to expand.
In many places, you can see animals and people dying due to lack of rain.
And currently, grain production is decreasing due to global climate change.
Perhaps in the future, countless people will starve to death due to this decrease in grain production.
Scientists are analyzing that this famine is due to global warming caused by human greed.
These phenomena show that Bible prophecy is being fulfilled.
3. War and rumors of war are spreading.
Matthew 24:6-7 says that there will be wars and rumors of wars.
There was a great war in the last 20th century.
The First and Second World Wars and the Cold War between the two major powers, the Soviet Union and the United States, continued, and nuclear weapons posed a threat to human survival.
And under the influence of these two powers, conflicts broke out in various parts of the world.
The Korean War also broke out as a result of the conflict between these two powers.
And the Middle East war between Israel and Arab powers,
War resulting from Iraq's invasion of Kuwait,
Terrorist attack using airplane on U.S. Trade Center building
And for the purpose of eliminating these terrorist forces, a war to eliminate al-Qaeda forces in Afghanistan, etc.
There have been countless wars, big and small.
It is true that there is currently a conflict between forces centered on the United States and forces centered on China.
And recently, the world is in turmoil due to the war between Ukraine and Russia, Israel and Hamas, and Israel and the Houthi rebels.
This is one of the signs that the end of the world is coming, as the world is at risk of ending the world due to war.
4. There is the appearance and deception of false prophets.
In Matthew 24:24 says, For the false Christ and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect-if that were possible.
Today, there are countless heresies that are rare in church history and they continue to arise.
Many heresies are active, including Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh-day Adventist Church, Mormonism, Christian Science, Unification Church, and Jeondogwan.
They are trying to deceive and falldown the church members.
This phenomenon of many heretics coming out to tempt people and drag them to hell is a phenomenon that occurs before the second coming of Jesus.
5. People’s love cools. (Matthew 24:12)
Matthew 24:12 says, “The increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.”
People in this world are becoming evil every day.
This world is so evil that the love of everyone in it is cooling off.
This cooling of love is also a phenomenon that precedes the second coming of Jesus.
6. The gospel of the kingdom of heaven is spread to all nations.
In Matthew 24:14 it says, “and this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
Currently, the gospel can be said to have spread almost throughout the world.
Although it is necessary for the gospel to be spread further in Islamic countries, it must still be seen that most of them have heard the gospel of Jesus.
It is said that there are still many unreached people groups, but almost all of them have been evangelized.
Looking at all these phenomena, we can say that the second coming of Jesus is near.
In this way, I previously explained the fact that the Lord's second coming is very close, citing what the Bible prophesied and all the prophetic events in the Bible that are coming true today.
So what should we do today, as the second coming of Jesus approaches?
What should we do ahead of the Lord’s second coming?
Let's find out about it.
A. We also must be ready.
In Matthew 24:44 it says, ‘you also must be ready.’
So what should we prepare?
This can be seen in Matthew 25:1-12.
There is a parable of ten virgins waiting for the bridegroom.
Five prepared oil and five did not.
Five of them prepared to meet the groom, and five did not.
What's the difference?
The difference is whether they prepared the oil or not.
What is oil here?
There are two prevailing views, one is that it is the Holy Spirit and the other is that it is faith.
I think both of these views are correct.
We must believe in Jesus and be born again by the Holy Spirit.
Then we can become children of God.
And we must continue to live by believing in and relying on Jesus.
If we do not believe in God and Jesus, we cannot be saved or become powerful Christians.
And we must always live a life filled with the Holy Spirit.
How do you receive the filling of the Holy Spirit?
The fullness of the Holy Spirit is not obtained through some mystical experience.
If we pray in faith, seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and live boldly in faith, we can live filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.
Those who prepare for the second coming of the Lord are those who are filled with the Holy Spirit through faith.
B. We must come to your senses and stay awake.
In Matthew 24:44 it says, “Therefore keep watch.”
In 1 Thessalonians 5:6, So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. said the Apostle Paul.
How can we stay awake?
We need to take a close look at how this world works.
And we must avoid falling into corruption and debauchery.
And we must look into when the Lord will return.
C. We must give our best to gather together.
Hebrews 10:25 says, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the day approaching.” It is said.
As the end of the world approaches, what we need is to gather together.
Why do we have to gather like that?
If we are scattered and do not gather together, if our faith weakens, we will succumb to the temptations and persecution of the world and lose our faith.
So, if we gather together, fellowship, and encourage each other, we can cheer each other up and not fall.
Let us not be absent from worship.
Let's meet and encourage each other.
Then we will be able to keep our faith and prepare for the second coming of Jesus.
conclusion
We previously looked at the signs of Jesus' second coming presented in the Bible in light of the current situation.
And I thought about how we can prepare to welcome the Lord's second coming.
We must anticipate and prepare for the Lord's second coming.
We must prepare with faith and the filling of the Holy Spirit.
And you have to come to your senses and stay awake.
We must remain alert by observing the current situation in this world and guessing when the Lord's return will occur.
Lastly, we must make an effort to come together.
We must encourage one another and gather often to pray, fellowship, and give each other strength.
And above all, we must stand firm in our love for one another.
Then we will greet Jesus with joy when He comes again.
