Two Zelkova Trees
By D.J. YOON
Two zelkovas
Right in front of A Place for Hope
I wonder what promises they have had today
One child feeding on sadness
Another child feeding on loneliness
Beneath laps of the trunks
All day playing all while gathering all
Holding hands by hands
Touching a chest with a chest
Rubbing cheek to cheek
At dusk for all
With no choice at all
THEIR EYES are all turning red and wet

Appreciation Review 感想
What kind of place is A Place for Hope?
Perhaps it is a place where children are growing up with hope.
Why are there two zelkova trees?
Perhaps one tree shares children's sorrow, while the other seems to relieve their loneliness.
Why are the trees’ eyes turning red and wet at sunset?
Perhaps it is because they are reflected in the evening dusk or are they painted by children's sadness and loneliness.
If they are dyed with sadness and loneliness, their eyes will surely be turning red and wet.
There are two zelkova trees sharing children's sadness and loneliness there.
And the name of ‘there’ is A Place for Hope.
