기러기에게서 배우자..

[모래무지]

"기러기 울어 예는 하늘 구 만리.."

한국에서 자라면서 기러기가 V자를 그리며 하늘을 나는 것만 보았고 기러기가 어떻게 생겼는지 몰랐습니다. 

헌데 북한 땅에 내려서 보리를 뜯어 먹기 떄문에,  올가미를 만들어 말뚝에 묶어 놓으면, 워낙 식탐이 많은 기러기가 정신없이 뜯어 먹으며 앞으로 나가다 걸린답니다.

그런데 덩치가 개만하기 떄문에 말뚝이 뽑아지고 그걸 끌고 다닌다는 얘기를 피난 나와서 가족처럼 살던 형님께 들은 적이 있습니다.

캐나다에 와보니 갈색의 깃털을 가진 거위만한 새들이 호수와 잔디에 널려 있는데, 전혀 사람을 겁내지 않더군요.

그게 goose라고 불리는, 기러기였습니다.

엄청나게 잔디를 뜯어 먹으며 번식력이 강해서, 수년 전에는 정부에서 사냥을 권장했던 적이 있다고 합니다.

그런데, 이 기러기에게서 본받을 점이 많다는 글이 있어서 올립니다.

서로 어우러져 사는 세상, 기러기에게 배우자구요.

Lessons From Geese on Interdependence

As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an "uplift" for the bird following. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if the bird flew alone.

Lesson: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of another.

When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into the formation and another flies at the point position.

Lesson: It plays to take turns doing the hard task and sharing leadership. With people, as with geese, we are interdependent.

The geese in formation honk from behind to encourage leaders to keep up their speed.

Lesson: We need to make sure over honking from behind is encouraging - and not something else.

When a goose gets sick, wounded or shot down, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it is able to fly again or dies. Then they launch out on their own with another formation or catch up with the flock.

Lesson: If we have as much sense as geese, we too will stand by each other in difficult times as well as when we are strong.

모래무지님 안녕하십니까? 좋은 덕담 올려주셔서 감사합니다. 기러기 떼의 비행의 비밀은 우리에게도 생존 전략이지요. 예전엔 이웃집 굴뚝에 연기가 나지 않으면, 때거리가 떨어진 줄 알고 이웃들이 먹을 것을 가져다 주던 아름다운 공동체였습니다.
