The Goatherd & the Wild Goats

One cold stormy day a Goatherd drove his Goats for shelter into a cave,

where a number of Wild Goats had also found their way.

The Shepherd wanted to make the Wild Goats part of his flock; so he fed them well.

But to his own flock, he gave only just enough food to keep them alive.

When the weather cleared, and the Shepherd led the Goats out to feed,

the Wild Goats scampered off to the hills.

"Is that the thanks I get for feeding you and treating you so well?" complained the Shepherd.

"Do not expect us to join your flock,"

replied one of the Wild Goats.

"We know how you would treat us later on, if some strangers should come as we did."

It is unwise to treat old friends badly for the sake of new ones.

염소치기와 들염소

폭풍우가 몰아치는 어느 추운 날, Goather는 그의 염소들을 피난처로 몰고 동굴로 들어가게 했습니다.

그곳에는 많은 들염소들도 길을 찾았습니다. 양치기는 들염소를 자기 양 떼의 일부로 삼고 싶었습니다.

그래서 그는 그들을 잘 먹였습니다. 그러나 자신의 양 떼에게는 먹이를 주기에 충분한 양만 주었습니다.

날씨가 맑아지고 양치기가 염소를 데리고 나와 먹이를 주자 들염소는 급히 언덕으로 달려갔습니다.

"이렇게 잘 먹여주고 잘 대해줘서 고마워요?" 양치기가 불평했습니다.

"우리가 당신의 무리에 합류할 것이라고 기대하지 마십시오." 들염소 중 하나가 대답했습니다.

"만약 낯선 사람들이 우리처럼 온다면 당신이 나중에 우리를 어떻게 대할지 알고 있습니다."

새로운 친구를 위해 옛 친구를 나쁘게 대하는 것은 현명하지 않습니다.
