21.Mar. 22 (Thurs) Journey - Caseres - Badajos - Exploring Roman Ruins and the Silver Route
After driving for about an hour from Merida, a white village appears on top of the mountain.
It is Cáceres, which once prospered as the center of the 'Silver Road.' The old town, surrounded by walls, shows the noble castles, towering towers, and family crests engraved on the walls, still retaining a medieval appearance. In fact, the entire old town was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1986.
Behind the white buildings, the Cáceres fortress can be seen. The area within the walls is the old town.
The cathedral in Santa Maria Square recaptured the city from Muslims. Hu The first church built within this wall
Golfinés Mansion, a noble castle built around 1530 next to Santa Maria Church. It is the largest within the old town and shows both Gothic and Islamic styles. It is said that the Catholic monarchs (Isabel and Hernandez) stayed in this mansion when they visited Cáceres twice.
The church building is in the Late Gothic style; the interior is dark, but the elegant carvings and doors are worth seeing.
It is a mansion with a 11th-century reservoir still remaining, and it is now a museum.
Badajos
Driving about an hour west from Cáceres, we reach a city called Badajos near the Portugal border. Starting tomorrow, I will be traveling in Portugal for a week. Today is my female student's birthday. Tonight, we decided to go to a restaurant with a good atmosphere.
A restaurant recommended by the hotel manager
When toasting with wine, the restaurant staff thought it was my wife's birthday and brought a celebratory cake, which moved us.
'Honey! Stay healthy,' I said to my wife, giving her a blessing.
The night view of the gate in front of the Roman church is beautiful.
You can see the old town of Badahos and the cathedral.
